You have to apply it at the end to consume it, so you are fine.

In other news, I found 3 total makeover kits in a row, in 3 chests with free keys.

Thanks. I know someone who got a black lion ticket (not a scrap, a ticket!) on the very first chest they ever opened, with the key from the level 10 personal story on their first character. RNG can be pretty surprising in both directions, it seems.
