Valkrylot – Guardian
~Underworld~
Hi!
Having a great time? I hope so.
Me? I’m fine, thanks for asking.
Anyhow, I’ve read countless of threads, lurked around and still have some uncertainty about those attributes.
I have a level 80 inexperienced Thief and I’m currently playing a level 72 Guardian – and I’d like to ask some questions – they’re not specific class related as why I’m posting here (at least if I’m understanding these forums correctly.)
I really don’t know much, I play mostly solo (I really don’t have any friends) and PvE (I haven’t touched WvWvW and PvP yet).
Ok ok ok, I’ll jump straight to the point. Sheesh.
So the point of this thread is (probably a stupid one);
I’m pretty certain (I might be wrong) that one must spread his attributes like for example; focusing your traits on Vitality and Toughness, while having your trinkets and armour on more offensive attributes like Power, Precision and Condition damage.
Is there any must do’s and don’t’s in attributes?
Is there any certain attribute one should focus on his weapons, on his armour and on his trinkets?
About sigils and runes – Should one keep the same type for each piece of armour? Is it viable to have different runes? I’ve tried to build an armour in the Build Editor (props to who built it by the way) and I’ve seen many runes I wish to use/combine.
This is so far my problems – I think.
Thanks for reading (and hopefully answers).
It is all about builds.
Take your guardian for example, if you are trying to go for a more tanky build, try to invest in Power/Toughness/Vitality armor and weapon and then the trinkets you try to keep the same and if you need extra stats you can change the jewel from the trinkets and the runes/orbs of the armor to get that extra flavor, like healing power and boon duration to rise the support or power and precision for more damage.
Try to check the specific forums for each class, you’ll find many builds there after that you can customize the gear as you feel like it.
Generally speaking it’s better to focus on just a few attributes, with your traits and gear all giving bonuses to the same ones, rather than spreading your points between them.
In PvE full-damage (commonly known as beserker after the stat combination) is popular, in WvW it’s a good idea to have some defensive capability, which means some points in either vitality or toughness. But you still want to try and focus on just a few attributes rather than all of them.
Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate it.
One question about traits now. Is it bad if you choose most your major traits on reduced cool downs? Does it make my build weak? Or it doesn’t matter much?
Is there any number, for an attribute, one should reach if for example he’s going for a tanky build or a DPS build?
I hope I’m not bothering you with many questions and thanks again.

By reduced cool downs do you mean traits that reduce the cooldowns on your weapons and utility skills? I find that on most classes those are actually the best traits to take.
Numbers vary with each class, situation, and play style. My tanky warrior has about 2k armor and she can walk through most WvW zergs.
You can’t go wrong with Power, Toughness, Vitality stats especially if you are soloing a lot. Just change Power to Condition Damage if your running a condition build.
Look for builds in the profession forums or post the build you want to run and ask for help with gear. Finding a solid and friendly guild will also clear up a lot of problems like this. Don’t be afraid to talk to people! Over half of the MMO nerds i have met in my life are really friendly!
Above all experiment and experience different parts of game play!

Yes, that is exactly what I meant. And thank you for your input.

I see. Yeah, I’ll try my best. It’s just this is a different community than the last I was part of (which there is no harm in it of course) and there are so many threads posting their builds and ask for help that posting mine would seem like spam.
In anyhow thanks for all of your input, I don’t have any other questions so far.
Thanks again, enjoy…whatever you do!
