Hi guys,

I recently bought the gem store armor set from the AH and applied it to my warrior’s existing stuff. The legs I used it on are yellow quality level 74. Now I just found better legs, a level 70 exotic. I want to apply the transmuted look of the gem armor on my new legs, but it doesn’t seem to be working. From the google searches I did, it SHOULD be possible to transmute the gem armor’s looks onto other stuff repeatedly. But I just can’t seem to get it to work. Is there something I’m missing? I’m using fine transmutation stones.

I’m wondering if it has to do with the item being from the gem store? I use transmutes like this all the time on looted and vender-bought gear. I haven’t tried it on anything from the gem or karma stores.

First, you don’t need fine stones to transmute items less than level 80. Don’t waste them because they are much harder to obtain then the common yellow ones.

Second, the only thing I can think that you might be missing is that you need to select three items from either of the sets: item name (and visual appearance), the stats and the upgrades you want to keep. When I first started transmuting, I didn’t have any upgrades on my gear. Later when I did, I remember it did give me pause for a short while because I hadn’t chosen an upgrade with the other two selections, so the process wasn’t completing. When I remembered to select an upgrade, it was fine.

I can’t really think of any other reason, aside from you mistakenly trying to transmute incompatible items (heavy armor skin with a medium armor piece). That’s also something I’ve done.

I really wish that we could just unlock those gem-purchased skins and reacquire them later from an NPC. Like maybe a personal valet in your home instance. Right now it’s way too easy to accidentally lose one of those pieces, and then it’s gone for good. It might even make the entire set worthless. Not to mention, for those of us who like to collect, it would be much nicer to keep just the skins somewhere so we can reapply them later, rather than having actual armor pieces, hogging bank space.

I just transmuted something (for the first time) yesterday.
First it showed the look of the other item that I only used the stats from, after logging in again it showed nothing anymore (fire gem head slot from elementalist). I’ll see if it persists if I log in tonight – perhaps it’s simply a bug atm.

I don’t know if you can re-transmute gem store outfits. I hope so, because I’m considering getting one of them and would want to make sure I can reuse it.
So if anyone knows for sure, would be nice to get an answer.

Thanks Jaince, nice to know. The fire gem was still invisible when I logged in again so I filed a bug report – funny enough it’s showing in the character selection. I’m sure it will be fixed eventually.
