Can I transmute lvl >79 on lvl 80 exotic gear? I like a few lvl 60 better then any exotic.

I believe you mean <79, since currently only 80 is >79

Yes.

If any of the gear is level 80 you’ll need to use a Transmutation Crystal instead of a Stone but you can transmute any skin onto any gear as long as it’s the same type (i.e. medium boots can only have the skin from other medium boots, you can’t make them look like a heavy helmet.)

My boots are level 80 exotic temple gear with a low-level crafted skin because I liked it better than any of the level 80 ones.

If memory serves, you can get a couple from rewards (very rare, at best) but your best bet is the gemstore.

You can get the crystals rarely from daily rewards or Black Lion chests (you can get keys as rare drops). Or you can buy them from the gem store.

Lol I just got some from a black lion chest, got a key from my main story.
