Am I unable to transmute an item that has already been transmuted?

I have the Light Armor Phoenix set I got from the gem store that was transmuted on top of the arah berserker set for the stats. I also have the sylvari tier 2 light armor set transmuted on top of another arah berserker set for the stats. The tier 2 set is now complete with 6 pieces of traveler runes. Traveler runes are very expensive. So instead of buying a full set of traveler runes for the Light armor Phoenix set, I thought it wise to just transmute the new light armor phoenix set (already transmuted with arah gear) on top of the tier 2 set, so that i will have the look of the Phoenix armor, zerker stats and the traveler runes.

I don’t want to buy another set of traveler runes. So i bought the transmutation crystals, and I’m unable to transmute the two sets. Is this intended?

You should be able to transmute as many times as you like. If the armor is level 80, you need to make sure you’re using transmutation crystals instead of stones, specifically, but if you’re already doing that, there shouldn’t be a problem.

Yeah, I bought the crystals from the gem store tonight for 5 for 200 gems, so I"m pretty sure I’m using the right ones. I’ll try again when the servers are back up. thanks for the replies.

I wonder if you could not use the transmutaton splitter (I thin that is what it is called) on one of the sets? It should produce the two original pieces, but I don’t know how it handles runes (or sigils).

Since you only want the runes from the one set of armor (=skin and stats are fine already), I would rather recommend using a black lion salvage kit on the armor with the traveler runes. You get the runes for sure, material like ectos in addition, and you only use 6 charges of a kit, which are way easier to get (or cheaper to buy) than 6 transmutation crystals.

The transmuation splitter is pretty expensive so I didn’t want to go that route. I didn’t think of using a black lion salvage kite, but even so I wouldn’t want to risk not getting the run back since each one is 10 gold.

So I’ve tried to transmute it again with the transmuation stones, and half of them worked. I was able to transmute the chest, legs and gloves. For some reason, it’s not allowing to transmute the helm, shoulders and boots.

Black Lion kits are guaranteed to return any upgrades from salvaged items.
