I wonder if anyone can clarify the following for me, as I may have misunderstood how this works. From looking at the ‘things you need to know’ sticky it stated that it was possible to travel to another races starter zones (circa level 1-15) and you would have your level scaled down as appropriate.

I have levelled a human thief to 18 and wanted to look at the Norn starter area. I jumped across there via Lions arch and when I left the city (Holbroek??) I expected to be in a 1-15 zone. I was surprised when a level 43 animal pounced and wiped me out. Mousing across all ‘monsters’ I could see, showed they were in the 40+ range.

Is the ‘visit any starter zone’ information now out of date, is it a racial thing that has made this zone a higher level for a human or was this some bug I hit. Any advice on what similar or lower level zones I could visit and adventure in would be appreciated.

No the information is correct but it seems that you went through the wrong exit. There are 2 exits from Hoelbrak one south leading into Dredgehaunt Cliffs (level 40 – 50 zone http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dredgehaunt_Cliffs ) and one to the east leading into Wayfarer’s Foothills (level 1 – 15 http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wayfarer_Foothills )

Don’t worry I walked out of Wayfarer’s into Frostgorge Sound (70 – 80) on my level 20 once. I can safely say I did not hang around there for long.

Similarly, the Black Citadel has exits into the Charr starting area (Ashford Plains 1-15) to the east, and into another area (Diessa Plateau 15-25) to the north.

And Divinity’s Reach also has a second exit, although it’s non-obvious. In the most eastern part of the city, there is an asura gate that leads direcly to Fields of Ruin (30-40), which is all the way on the other side of the world map.

Always first hover with you mouse of the next mob / NPC to check its level when you enter an unknown zone

or just look at the map—it has all the zone names as well as their levels. Use the gates to travel to the various home cities and pick the exit you want.

Hoelbrak s kind of unusual to have an entrance into a LVL 40-50 zone. Dredgehaunt Cliffs is one of may favorite areas (and Timberline Falls to it’s South is awesome as well).
