Trying to get wife to like WvWvW, build plz
Oyjord, it all depends on the preferred class and playstyle preference. WvW build could be purely support/purely dps/zerg fight-based/solo roaming style play based etc. On main forum, each profession has its own sub-section where you/your wife should be able to find different builds for each profession for various playstyles. I guess posting in a particular profession’s section with preferred style of play should get you some help on what you’re looking for. Hope you manage to find a suitable build for your wife and you guys enjoy WvW!
But since you want her to like WvW in the first place, maybe take her around with basics like supply runs, escorting yaks and defense and then some offensive play so that she could get an idea on where she seems fit?

Also depends on which server you play… Being at a tier where you have a overwhelming monster won’t help at all…

WvW can never have too many mesmers
It really depends on what tier and play style you are looking for. I find that you can usually adapt your PvE play style to WvW fairly easily if you are running with other people but are usually more pronounced. Tanky builds in PvE will led well to bunker builds in WvW, Dmg builds will drift towards glass cannons, and steady back of the lines sustain evolves into conditions. With the lack of holy trinity classes in GW2, there will be more options for customization, but certain classes will still excel. You rarely see glass cannon Commanders leading charges into zergs, so read up on the metas for which classes have tendencies towards what builds.
Having said that, it comes down to how she likes to play: does she like epic defences? large scale seiges? open field charges? supply camp raids and skirmishing?
Run these questions by her and see how she answers then build her class to spec for this type of action. Try to run your PvE 5 man in WvW and play as a party. Coordination will mean more than any one build.
If she likes back of the lines fighting, AOE heavy classes or ranged glass cannons will work well.
killshot warrs, staff ele’s, zerker thiefs, clone mesmers, and longbow rangers come to mind when thinking about back of the lines classes, maybe check them out?
[ARM] Anvil Rock Militia Commander;
The Loryak: I speak for these beasts.
Shout based warrior, PVT gear, maybe longbow or rifle and hammer or great sword. Can range or melee, very robust, good heals and support, easy to learn and forgiving of mistakes.
Big norn warrior hammer and sword/axe or GS. 30 points toughness and vitality trait lines 10 somewhere. This is girly way to play.

Mesmers are rather complicated for starters…

I started with a Mesmer and have enjoyed the entire time of it.
They’re not that complicated to play competently, they’re just harder to completely master.
And if his wife is already into PvE, I’d wager she knows enough about the game to get a handle on it.
Mesmer seems complicated, but it’s faceroll compared to ele/engi :p
Thanks again for all the helpful replies.
If your wife dislikes PvP, she may be hesitant to even try WvW. But there are quite a WvW’ers playing now that hated pvp in any form. There is no guarantee you can get her to like it.
I’m betting what she doesn’t like is the in-your-face aspect of pvp combat. Try getting her to play a ranged profession first..maybe a ranger. Or maybe have her play a necro or ele and aoe keeps n’ towers or aoe from keeps n towers.

I don’t think it’s a female thing or a guy thing, but I haven’t played pvp much in other games so I was originally a bit intimidated by WvW. I got over that when my guild started running newbie events, just in small roaming groups. I had a blast and it completely changed my mind about WvW. So if you’ve got good people to team with, she’ll probably have good fun whatever her prefession.
