Twilight Crafting Almost
As much as I would help you answer your question/request I’ll say this instead.
Precursor will be craftable some point in the future and I belive I’ve seen some form of hint on the web that we’re pretty close to do so. Save the money for now and when we can craft the precursor, compare the cost and see what’s most profitable.
Thanks for the reply Ouimette, but as far as I can tell, I’ve heard the story about scavenger hunt for the past 6 months+ and there has yet to be any reliable information or official release previews that points to an alternative way of attaining the precursor any time soon.
I’m looking at it this way, if I acquire all required mats before such information presents itself, I’ll most likely go ahead and craft it. But in the absence of such information, I might as well have something to work towards in the mean time.
some items related to what appears to be the scavenger hunt have been data mined so I would suggest holding off for a little bit.
http://bravevesperia.com/ can help calculate the cost of buying the materials for a legendary as well as some of the high end exotics created with the MF.
The T6 materials along will cost you ~500 gold. Just a rough estimate. Probably another 150-200 gold for stacks of ecto. You will need a full stack of 250 ectos plus ~233 extra or so for mystic clovers.
Always do your mystic clovers first, as they will yield a lot of T6 materials when you ‘fail’ to produce a clover.
Also, sell all those lodestones/cores that you do not need. Find the recipe for your legendary and keep the ones you do need. Liquidate the rest of your valuable items also.
You can make a small fortune by just selling stacks of junk like crafting materials.
It’s up to you if you want to wait out precursor crafting or not. Sounds like you still have a little ways to go.
Good luck.

Very helpful link thank you.

Good insights, going with what you’re saying, do I really have to farm another 500+ gold for the mats? This is nearly as much as the precursor that I’m going to buy. I would think it would cost me at most 200 gold thereabouts.
What are my alternatives? Would farming for T6 mats be feasible?
Where would be a good place to do it?

You don’t have to farm it as gold for all of it. As mentioned above you should get your clovers first. You will end up with some t6 from that. Farming blood/scale/fang/venom sac either seems okay as well but that will depend on a bit on class and build.
Also keep in mind that the site I linked to is using the sell price. You should be using buy orders so in many cases it should less. You should be using buy order for your precursor too.
Most of the spots in game that were good for farming T6 materials directly have been nerfed into the ground.
It currently is pretty difficult to farm the T6 directly. It is more efficient currently to try to farm gold from your favorite source and use the procedes to purchase T6.
And 500 gold for all the T6 is a pretty good ‘rough’ estimate on how much it would cost to get a stack of each T6. An average 25 silver per T6 yields 62 gold 50 silver per stack of T6. 8 stacks of T6 yields 500 gold.
That is just a rough estimate, if you had to buy them all. You will probably easily farm/acquire ~100 each of the T6 materials just through game play and making mystic clovers.
There are guides out there that point out the spots to farm T6, but like I said they are no longer as profitable as they once were. Drop rates have been nerfed and farming T6 directly is a waste of time.
Champ farming will yield you some gold per hour plus some random T6 materials from the champ bags.
I would farm ori/ancient wood every day. I did this on three toons, which would take ~1.5 hours max while yielding around 12-14 gold. I used these procedes to fund the purchase of 30-40 T6 at a time.
And ALWAYS put in buy orders for T6. At least save a few coppers is you can. It adds up.
Well, I made enough to outright buy a precursor off the TP, but doing that would leave me with some crumb change and a long way from getting the necessary mats for crafting the legendary.
I’ll be putting up buy order for the precursor for now.
I’d guess the first thing to start crafting is Mystic Clover since failure would result in T6 mats?
Also, I have the metals but not ingots, what would be the cheapest way to acquire them? I have armor and weaponsmith at around 70-100.
Sell metal buy ingots or up crafting and craft ingots myself?
Thanks
I make it simple for you. Save your gold until a precursor drops for you. If it doesn’t then you still have tons of gold in case if you want something else.
A legendary is not everything in this game. Just play the game and have fun…
One day you will get lucky…

You need to be a lv400 weaponsmith to make the Gift of Metal.
You’ll also need lv400 in another crafting profession depending on the weapon you are going for.
To be fair, you can get a precursor now for 54g…the torch one (no body loves it it seems)
Finally bought my Spark through a buy order.
I’m now working on Mystic Clovers.
Having some problem with crafting though.
Can anyone help me with getting 1-400 for cooking and weaponsmith?
Never really did crafting before so no idea how it goes.
Help is greatly appreciated.
http://www.gw2crafts.net/ is useful for leveling crafting.
Thanks for the site, I’m now 400 cooking, Weapon smith is a little rich for me right now, I’ll postpone it till I get my 77 clovers. =)
Always try and go for the clovers first – as someone else mentioned above, when you fail to make one quite often you’ll be producing T6 mats instead.
As a personal preference I’ve always gone for the 10s recipe – just finished making clovers for my second incinerator and ended up getting 50 mystic coins as a fail drop in my second go. 10s has always been a better rate for me than 1s.
People are saying just buy the T6 materials off the TP. Well, someone has to be rolling in the T6 materials if there are all these things available to buy on the TP. How does that happen?

Not everyone who gets a t6 needs it. Many people will be getting 1 or 2 just as a side effect of doing whatever. For example all those people farming the champions will get t6s along with the t5. They are mostly farming gold but they will also get t6s as a side effect. Same for people doing the temple events. They aren’t there for these items but some people will end up with a few anyway. There are at least 400,000 players so you multiply “someone gets 1 or 2” by 400,000 and that turns into a lot of t6s. There ARE people who are specifically farming these to sell as well.
So, I decided to start working on weaponsmith 400,
http://www.gw2crafts.net/weaponcraft.html
this site requires me to buy a lot of materials and costs around 25g total.
Would this guide be cheaper to craft ?
http://www.guildwars2-crafting.com/crafting-guides/weaponsmith/#C2
(seems to be more expensive)
Or is there a better cheap weaponsmithing guide around?
Thanks.

gw2crafts.net’s guide is calculated from current prices. You can do it for cheaper if you use buy orders instead of buying at the current lowest price. You can also do it for cheaper by gathering some of the easier things yourself (but there is still opportunity cost). Platinum, iron, seasoned wood and hard wood can be expensive but they aren’t very hard to get. Especially platinum.
With ascended armor crafting next patch this is probably one of the worse times to be buying crafting materials.

Yeah, this is a really bad time to be buying materials to craft currently.
Ascended armor being released and everyone wanting to get to 500 in the armor professions will drive prices of raw material up.
And a lot of mid range materials are needed for the actual ascended weapon once they reach 500.
But anyways, weaponsmith and armorsmith are always two of the most expensive trades to level up to 400 (or 500). Gathering a lot of the materials yourself will save you a lot of money atm.
And T6 materials are pumped into the market by players who obtain a few and don’t need them and also from farmers and bots both. There used to be reliable ways to farm the T6 materials directly, but currently the best method is to just farm gold and buy them. You can always try some of the old farm spots, but they just are not as lucrative as they once were.
Champ farms produce a good little bit of T6 that is spread throughout the entire zerg. A majority of these players just sell for the $$.
Alright, I manage to get to 400 weaponsmith… phew…
Now I’m broke.
So far I’ve gotten 250 of every metal except for platinum.
Somehow I kinda underestimated the need for platinum, appears I’ll need 750 more after crafting.
Other than that, I’m still 80 short on each lodestones, is it cheaper to sell my current cores and buy lodestones or would crafting lodestones from cores be cheaper? I have around 40 odd of each cores.
Thanks again.
Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but you can get T6 mats from laurels also. 1 laurel gets you 3 T6 mats. I’ve been using them for this since I don’t need ascended trinkets. It has really helped up my mats level a lot.
For platinum, go to Timberline Falls. Right around the middle of the map there is tons of platinum nodes. I go there for about 15 mins a day and come away with a lot of platinum ores. If you hit the other 55-66 zones as well, you could do all of them in about an hour and prob get about 100 ores a day.
So, I’ve met a kind-hearted samaritan who graciously donated a substantial amount of gold as well as t6 material to aid in my legendary crafting.
I just wanted to take time off to thank said person for doing so and acknowledge the fact that there are actually really good individuals in video game communities, especially so in Guild Wars 2.
As a matter of fact, since my hiatus from this game awhile back, I went back to Diablo 3 and put down some cash to gear my character up. During which I was scammed of roughly 300m gold while trading with someone in-game.
Of cause I was to be blamed for being careless then, that which caused me to again leave Diablo 3 largely due to the community.
In stark contrast, this individual allowed me to regain my faith in the gaming community and showed me that not everyone is self serving.
Again, I would like to reiterate and offer my sincere thanks to this person, may good deeds be rewarded.
Update
Found some good spot of platinum in Fireheart Rise, have been farming it for awhile, close to completing my Gift of Metal.

What area of the map? For Timberline Falls go to Thistlereed Waypoint. Lots of nodes close by plus a rich vein to the west, if you go into and under the water by the skelks and go into the little cave – not even any bad guys to fight for that one!

Around 60 plats per 15 mins, got reset now though, not before I cleared my gift of metal so all’s good.
I’m currently holding off from buying globs and mats mainly due to the increased cost from the release of ascended armor crafting.
Might be awhile before I actually get to craft my Incinerator when the prices stabilizes.
