Hi folks,

I understand the main UK servers are Desolation, Gandara and Gunnar’s Hold. Can anyone offer any other recommendations? Also, what are the pros and cons of high-pop servers?

Piken Square (EU) is the unofficial RP server and it’s also well populated.

In answer to your other question the best and worst thing about high population servers is that there are always a lot of people around. Whether that’s good or bad varies depending on what you’re doing.

It means even relatively empty maps will always have at least a few people around so you’re never on your own and can usually find people to help with anything. But it also means for popular content or anything new you will be pushed into an overflow and may not be able to get onto the main map.

I’m on Desolation which has a very high population (both officially on the server list and in reality) and normally I love it and wouldn’t want to switch at all. But the only way I could do the Invasion events back in August was by guesting to other servers. WvW also has a very long queue at peak times.

But in general I definitely prefer being on a high population server.

Thanks for the help so far, folks. How predominantly English speaking are these servers? I don’t want to end up on a server whose inhabitants I can’t speak to.

As a UK player, I can assure you that English is the dominant language of the server

Why not guest over and see?

While we Piken inhabitants come from all over, the common language is about 99% of the time English. If you see something in another language, it is almost always an advertisement for a guild.

Come on over! Play with us and then decide if you want to make it your home.

Hello again folks. Thanks for your help. I joined Piken Square because of it’s slightly smaller pop but now it all seems a bit dead in here. I realise it’s early days and I’m in the low-level areas but are things always this empty?

There is RP in Hoelbrak fairly regularly, but Divinity’s Reach is the largest hub with regular events, as listed on the GW2 RP site I linked to earlier.

But if the time you are posting at is your regular RP time, you might want to keep in mind that possibly the majority of players are in bed! I know that we have only 1 or 2 members who are around at that time as we have careers, families, Uni etc that mean that we have to get to bed before midnight!

I suggest you keep a look out, both in the guild recruitment forum here as well as on the RP site, for a guild to join. That is often the fastest way of getting in to RP.
