Arenanet/NCSoft support has only given me off topic canned answers on my petitions regarding this. Please don’t be like them, and read my message thoroughly.

I’m posting in the “Players helping players” forum, because so far the official “help” has been anything but useful.

I have a warrior character that I’m working on story line quests with. I am currently completely stuck at “Forging the Pact” because every time I go into the quest, I get half way done, and then somewhere along the way the game stalls (but chat doesn’t) and I get disconnected. I’ve been playing for weeks on various days and weekends and have never had this issue.

Before people jump to conclusions ( a practice which official support seems really good at), this is not an issue of my computer specifically or connection.
The reason I say this is because I am not the only person that has been knocked out of this quest. One member that got booted out this way lives hundreds of miles away from me, and is on a different internet provider.

I have now tried 4 times today and yesterday to finish this stupid quest.

Is this quest broken? Is there some new server problem that I don’t know about?

Is there any chance at all I can just have the quest marked as “complete”? (I know, I’m dreaming, but I’d be willing to completely skip loot/XP/Rewards just to get this stupid thing out of the way).

Try posting in the Personal Story section as well, that’s where I’ve gone to confirm PS bugs. I’ve never had a problem with Forging the Pact other than it being really long, like 45 minutes with all going smoothly. Still, various PS stages -do- seem to fail in consistent fashion for many people.

It’s bedtime for me but I should be around tomorrow afternoon (Eastern) by maybe 4 pm. Does anyone know if PS instances work like dungeons for joining cross-server? If so I’d be glad to group with you and get hauled into your PS to see what’s going on, assuming you haven’t gotten through it by then. Toss me a whisper in game when you see me online tomorrow (Monday).

So it`s not your PC because someone somewhere happens to have a similar problem ?

If the instance is really long it probably IS your PC. What is your configuration?

@Donari – unfortunately personal story instances do not work cross-server. But you can party with people on your own server and they can enter the instance with you.

Did you file a bug report? Twice my personal story bugged out on me both times because an NPC became unresponsive and the story couldn’t continue. I sent a report and next time the server reset it was fixed.

Well, it wasn’t your bug report that fixed it. When the server resets, it fixes all (most?) of the current bugged content by force-restarting them, which usually lets stuff work a few times before it bugs again.

Neural, I would wait until the next patch which will indeed reset the server and try again. If it happens right after a server reset, i would say it’s probably your PC, since this isn’t a widespread issue.

We’ve tried this 3 times with 5 different people and someone or in one case 3 of the members got kicked at various times including the instance owner who then kicked the rest of us. Has anyone found a work around?

I guess I can’t help unless you’re on Tarnished Coast, then. So I’ll take my time about logging in after all ( yes, it’s after 4 pm my time now, I had that whole need-to-eat thing getting in the way …)

I did that story step only last week with my ranger on Gandara, encountering no problems at all :/ Have you tried looking for someone who’s at the same story step and letting that person start up the instance?

Yes in the each case a different person started it and it still kicked people part way through.

Some are bugged, yeah….send in a bug report and hope. Then go do something else. Its not the end of the world.

It’s not just your PC. It’s happening to mine too. I’m in the cave on my way to get the second team and my computer will disconnect from the server after I defeat one of the grubs. I won’t lie, I don’t have the best PC but I’ve never d/c’d from this game. It’s definitely a bug of some sort.
