just wait for the guesting to be implemented coz for sure that there will be one unoffical leveling server where lots of people from different server will congregate in and do chain dynamic events for leveling just like during the early months of the game.
This was posted back in like January and it made me wonder…is there an unofficial leveling server now that guesting is in full swing? I think it’d be pretty sweet to turn one of the low pop servers into this. It would give new players a community to play with dedicated to <80 DEs and group play. And it’d probably make room for the Queensdale champ runners.
Thoughts?

Wait? … What? you’re proposing that all those low level player who are using Queensdale (the way it was designed to be used) to level up new characters and play the game should … let me get this straight … go somewhere else and get BLEEP out of your way and let me run my endless, mindless, champ runs in peace?
Here’s an Idea … lets make a server just for champ runners so they can leave the rest of us alone, and while we’re at it make it so once you guest over to this server you can never return to your home server … ever.

No no, I am serious. I’m not saying to run away from Queensdale champ farmers. Simply that having an unofficial leveling realm where everyone gets together to do low level DEs and hearts together will indirectly result in a place that those champs trains will avoid.
I’m all for a dedicated overflow just for champ trains. They detract from actual gameplay.
It just got me thinking because I’ve read so many posts complaining that players feel alone out there and come across few players whilst leveling. Just thought that if you felt that way and knew that if you guested onto low pop server X you’d find a bunch of like-minded sub-80 questers.
Isn’t TC the unofficial RP server? People know that if they want RP they can go there. Sorta like that.
Hi Seras,
No.
Ok I’ll try to explain.
The champtrain wasn’t implemented to be a champtrain. The devs wanted to make killing champs more interesting. In Queensdale a side effect is that you can kill the champs in a certain sequence to have a pretty good income off champ-bags. However, it has never been designed to be a champtrain, it is designed as a starter area. I totally understand that it is annoying when you need to wait 5 minutes and miss a box. but your solution isn’t the right one. There are two valid solutions.
1: The people farming champs understand they are the guests in the map and ask in civil and polite way to cooperate with the train.
2: the current flamewars continue and just like e.g. Lyssa and Scarlets invasion Anet steps in to make it less interesting to overfarm it (destroying the train).
Obviously I hope for 1, but knowing some elements of this (mostly rather nice) community, it will be 2 anyways.
I agree with you mercury. However, I feel like I should never have mentioned the Queensdale champtrain. It was an afterthought that’s derailed the purpose of this thread. The point I was trying to make wasn’t that we need a solution to Queensdale champtrains, but simply a solution to the problem of sparsely populated <80 zones. As many players may feel alone in say, Lornar’s Pass, a leveling server would be a place for <80 players to guest in hopes of more people being in those zones doing hearts & DEs together.
I think it’s a great idea actually. I am 75% of the way through leveling a guardian and still want to level a Mesmer. I do see people here and there who are leveling as well, but for the most part, it’s pretty barren in areas of mid to low level unless there is a champ train or a world boss.
It would be a great idea to concentrate people leveling together. I’m not sure how you would decide which server or how you would get the word out to people, especially new people.
Okay, guys, lets not focus on the champ train. We all gripes about it, whatever, blah blah blah, we still do it.
The idea IS actually a good idea. All people leveling will be in one server when they want to level, which allows people to pair up and play together. How many times have you felt like the only person in a zone leveling? How many times have you seen a level 80 just run past you as you’re trying to do an event?
This is actually a really good idea, even if people are blinded by their urge to complain about people champ farming.
This entire situation would be a moot point if those running the Champ Train would exhibit a bit if mature politeness during their runs when new or low level players are encountered. Some of the things I’ve seen n chat are just unbelievably rude and totally uncalled for.
I’ve reported a few players myself and I hope ANet bans a few to try and teach some manners.

This is EXACTLY why the solution is for those vets wanting to run Champ Train to have a dedicated Server to meet….not the other way around. This suggestion is the opposite of what makes actual sense.
I think you’re way too focused on the champ train thing.
The main huge benefit of this leveling server would be that everybody leveling would be in the same area. You can do events faster, kill things faster, level together. Thats what the game is all about leveling wise. It loses it’s focus after most people hit 80 and don’t make alts. I have several alts, and usuall level alone, soloing hearts and events because I’m the only one in the map (not queensdale)
The downside is that it would be hard to communicate to new players what that server is. It would have to be endorsed by Anet.
The other idea would be if we create a guild that has a Herald in each server. Whenever that person goes into LA, they could recruit and send out an advertisement saying something like “Trying to level? Join our guild and/or guest to the unofficial leveling server [insert server here] to group up with other people leveling!”
If this gets going, I volunteer as BG Herald.

I did map completions as i was lvling and found other people were often a pain. Especially those hearts that are kill x enemys, and the enemies needed are few and far between. Add a bunch of people killing them, and it takes forever waiting for them to respawn. I do think it’s a good idea for a lvling train doing events, and lvling that way.
Content scales pretty well with population though. So those hearts would have a faster spawn rate for the required “x enemy” as the number of players in the area rises.
Here’s a better suggestion: Level on the Queensdale champ train! It’s got XP, karma, money, level relative loot, the Troll and trolls. What’s not to like?

I like the troll but not the trolls =)

Please specify what heart you’re talking about. Almost all hearts have other activities to do. It’s also possible you just haven’t found other places to kill them.

True enough. There are a few hearts that require to search around a bit to find the area you’re to do task x,y,z. And it’s never just 1 thing, so it’s nice to be able to (for instance) set traps and gather supplies if you can’t find centaurs to kill.
I made a post similar to this about 2 months after release.
My idea was to have one server that PvE was done on, with perhaps your default server becoming the ‘overflow’ server if the map was full due to events etc. Given that most areas were sparsely populated even so soon after release, it seemed like a good way to populate the maps.
In any event it didn’t happen and I doubt now that it ever will. Perhaps you should elect an unofficial leveling server and see if it gets any momentum behind it.
Alternatively I would simply recommend TC, i guest there sometimes just because your more likely to have one of those ‘WTH’ moments while your questing.

I’ll have to check out the server populations. TC is a good server but it’s good because it’s highly populated. If an Unofficial Leveling Server is to gain any traction, it needs to be on one with low pop so-as not to run into queues, overflow, or interfere with the local server population. I wouldn’t want a repeat of the Tequat’l incidents of thousands of players guesting to Blackgate, only to have native BGers unable to log into their own server.
