I’m currently working on getting all the waypoints of the world unlocked on my Mesmer, but also considering getting all the hero points because I’ll need them for the Chronomancer specialisation traits and skills, but I’m not sure how many hero points I’ll need.

Was it confirmed as to how many hero points we’ll need to completely unlock the specialisation traits and skills?

Also, on my elementalist who has world completion, he has 200 or so unspent hero points. Surely the Tempest won’t require that many to unlock the specialisation – so anyone know what all these extra hero points are for? Or are the extras just pointless? I don’t want to get them all, to find out it was a waste of time!

It hasn’t been yet. If anything, it sounds like they are still balancing that internally. Any numbers we might/might not have seen from datamining or the beta are likely to change. For now, I’m assuming it can’t hurt to have an extra 100 per L80.

Awesome tysm. I think perhaps then I should probably go for all the hero points, or at least 100 like you say. Somehow I don’t think my 55 hero points will be enough for the traits AND skills.

Edit: I’ve now got my Mesmer with 196 unspent hero points and I’m just finishing off 1 last map that has 7 hero points, then I’ll have all extra hero points so I should be set now. Thanks everyone for the advice! I think it’s worth going for all hero points, if not 90-100 to be safe.

It cost 60 pts to unlock a core specialisation. So you can pretty much guess that it will cost that for the elite too. For skill, if we base it on current skills it should cost use between 18 and 31pts to unlock all 6 new skills. So with 91 pts you should be ok with the full elite specialisation.

If you get more points than you need, they’ll be in the bank for whenever the second Elite Spec wave appears. So as long as you don’t hate the very idea of collecting PvE challenges, you may as well grab as many as you can make yourself grind out. At least until they tell us the actual cost, anyway.
