Be more creative, add surname for example
Asura and Sylvari don’t tend to have surnames. They tend to have singular names. As such, it could potentially be quite hard to find untaken names for them.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
And what is wrong with naming sylvari for example Ari the RedLeaf and giving it red leafs for haircut?:D
Be imaginative
Or sylvari thief called Teher Ashenbark ?

I am speaking strictly of a lore based perspective. Very few Sylvari have anything more than one name. But unless you are an RPer, it makes little difference.

Still I don’t find it right really. Many NPCs have only names and probably for convienience. Queen Jenah, Minister Caudecus,
Only a few important NPCs are given surname, like Logan, Rytlock, racial leaders etc.

And as the debate rages on, OP continues to build his awesome sandwich…
OP, you may want to check out some kinda name generator if you can’t come up with anything meaningful to you. Google delivered me: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/20010208b (evil Wizards of the Coast)
Let us know what you go for so that we don’t end up trying to name our chars that and get disappointed.
With asura I try doubling a letter not at the end. Doubling in the begging has worked well so far. I actually do the same for sylvari. I find a welsh/celtic/whatever name and double a letter.
(Name) the (adjective) works well for any race really. It’s slightly more awkward lore wise for sylvari but it’s not that big a deal. Works best for Norn I guess.
Charr and Humans have it the easiest. I’ve never had trouble with them. Just do the good old first name + last name. I love making Charr names. It’s my favorite by far.
As I have mostly Norn characters I tend to go for Norse names or variations there of, or characters from fantasy books. I also am not against mixing languages as for a Sylvari, I would go for something like Leif Starkzweig as in Leaf Strongtwig
try using spaces and also use variations of lettering like óáéí
What i tend to do is name my alts after my main but spell it differently or add some e.g
My lvl 80 ranger is called dekcora and my lvl 37 necro is dark dekcora
There was a time i had dekcora II (2) which isnt a bad idea, besides at least people mnow who you are when you are on your alt without treaing you like a stranger 1st
I tend to name mine using other languages, Dutch, Danish, German, Italian ect.. Then I also use a surname “Diezalot” on all my characters.

Then add titles. The game gives plenty of examples: Researcher, Experimenter, etc.

True. I’ve seen many titles for Asura and Sylvari on the RP server.
Main: Caeimhe – Sylvari Ranger
Alts: Charr Guardian, Asura Elementalist, Human Thief, Norn Necromancer
I almost never have problems running into names already being taken. The only name that was unavailable for me was for my Asura, and I got around that by adding a title.
Asurans have just the one name followed by their profession. Sylvari TEND…notice this word… to sway towards just the one name because having two names is considered unusual. Id argue that there are enough Sylvaris in the game now with two names and therefore it isnt considered unusual any longer.
Im just waiting on the name change contract to add a ‘surname’ to my Sylvari warrior. She’s(I’ve) seen other Sylvaris with a ‘surname’ and feels its appropriate to adopt one herself(myself). What name she(I) picks will be based on her(my) experience if Tyria since awakening.

Haha, that’s great xD
you could always just call yourself your race and class
norn ranger- example
one good suggestion I heard was to have a last name for all your characters – it doesn’t even have to be a second word.
yes, most names you will think of someone else has already thought of.

I’ve seen plenty of people who like Mystic said use the same last name for all characters, or in some cases the same first name (like I could use Scribe The Mad, Scribe The Raging, Scribe The Insane, and so on). Either has the benefit of making the names recognizable to people who might otherwise only know you by one.
Short Asuran names are hard to come by, so I used several tactics mentioned above. for example my Asuran warrior is Mikka the Blade, and my thief and engie are Mirra and Gizmo Vio, twin daughters of the krewe leader of Vio Labs (even came up with some lore to explain why I they looked really similar XD)
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
The thesaurus is your friend. A simple word can branch out into many different possibilities.
I don’t see the issue. All my characters were able to get the first name I chose, with no problem at all. Make something creative up
Not wanting a last name had me trying to create a sylvari character for what felt like a couple hours one morning several months back. As it is, I ended up giving up on a serious name, a first for me. But at least she doesn’t have a surname!
