I have recently come back to play Heart of Thorns and got one of the boost items for purchasing the game. Thing is I have several capped characters already and only 1 free slot for anything else that I was mostly using for the occasional key farm.

Question I have is, if you use the boost on a character that is already capped does it receive the set of exotic gear a character that you made from scratch and boosted into the trial would get. When you try to consume the boost on a level 80 it makes no mention of the exotic gear, only the free dyes/bags/waypoints etc. I would love to consume it on my necromancer to get a set of rabid gear for him but I am unsure if it works the way I think it does.

Please state how sure you are of your answer because I would hate to waste the boost if people are uncertain.

you only get what is listed. I’m very sure level 80 characters don’t get the gear.

if, after reading that, you’re thinking of boosting a character with the intent of giving your necro the grear. think again. it is soulbound to the boosted character.

According to the Official Video linked within, it sounds like a L80 character would not receive the armor package.

I just did that yesterday on my level 80 ranger and I did get a full set of exotic gear (armour and weapons, including two aquatic weapons, only the breathing apparatus was masterwork). All gear is soulbound.

Also note that your skills, traits and specializations will be changed (or at least they were in my case).

Now I am confused, do you or do you not get the exotic gear? I have 2 answers for no and one stating yes, and recently… I have put a ticket in to arenanet asking for an answer one way or the other but no response as of yet.

You should get the level 80 exotic gear if you use it on a level 80 char.

What if all my characters are already level 80?

You can choose to either create a new character or to consume the boost with one of your existing level 80 characters. Using the boost on a level 80 character will deliver the package of rewards that is normally delivered when making the boost permanent. However, there is no trial for an existing level 80 character, so the item will be permanently consumed if it is used by a level 80 character. You will need to confirm twice before the item is consumed if you want to use it on an existing level 80

You will receive the armour in a Level-80 Equipment Package.

Additionally, if you could be so kind as to take a look at the talk page for that package and see if you could fill in any blanks? It would be much appreciated.

Edit: I added an extra line concerning the Level-80 Equipment Package. Let us know if that helps to clarify things.

Sorry, I haven’t used the wiki all that much as I have only recently come back to the game and did not realise that the “talk page” was a thing on the wiki. I have since read it and after some searching on the web found several other people confirming that they also got the gear on their level 80s

I did exactly that — because it let me experience the class and learn the game, then get geared instantly and for free.

Eventually turned out I chose the wrong class, but hey, whatevs.

I used the boost on a lvl 80 ranger, and got all the exotic equipment in the pack. Sadly I don’t remember the exact type of longbow anymore (it was half a year ago), but I’ll try to fill in the wiki page with the rest.
