Greetings Guild Wars 2 players.

So I just bought GW2 5 minutes ago and It’s downloading as we speak. I’m not new to the mmorpg genre but I am curious about what I should know and can expect from GW2.
For example, can I expect to play with many others in the lower lvling areas or are they already abandoned even though the game is still pretty new?
Are there things one definitely should or should not do?
Is GW2 anything like WoW or should I forget everything I know from WoW and re-educate myself?

Any other relevant en important information for a newbie is welcome.

I thank you in advance,

Helsinkk.

Forget the majority of what you know from WoW, especially the Trinity.

One of the things you’ll want to do is figure out what server you want to play on, I personally favor Ferguson’s Crossing, especially since I’ve got a decent group of friends that I roll with when we’re all online at the same time.

You’ll also want to find a nice helpful guild that is willing to answer any questions you may have. To that end the Union is a good source of information, although I’d also have to say my guild is on par for helping people and for the most part we’re all on one server so it’s easy to find people who’d be willing to help with something that’s kicking you around (like a champion blocking a path or a hard jumping puzzle)

If you are in America… in fact, no matter where you are… Dragonbrand is the server you want to be on. You don’t need to know anything else

We freakin’ rock, man.

As GuzziHero said, Dragonbrand rocks. I was on Dragonbrand until about a week ago when I transferred to where all my friends are (Borlis Pass…also rocks). It was hard to leave Dragonbrand; because I love the server so much, but without a guesting system, I had to do it.

Thanks for all of your replies.
I still have one more question before I begin my time on GW2.

Does it matter which server I choose to play on?

Every server is a little different. But if you don’t like the one you start with, you can change to another every 7 days for free. (The current situation. Subject to change when/if guesting becomes available.)
Hopefully you find one that has a fair number of people at the times you play.

Server location etc. doesn’t matter, just pick your general region (Europe/America) and somewhere that has space and sounds good to you. As Garambola said, you can still transfer for free at the moment, with limits.

While ‘forget everything you know from WoW’ might be a bit of an exaggeration, I certainly think you’ll get more out of GW2 if you don’t assume things work like they do elsewhere. Learn as you go, there’s a lot to pick up but a decent learning curve, and people in map chat are usually pretty helpful
