Hi guys, I got really lucky yesterday and got a Ascended Chest with Valk stats on sPVP last night. I main on Thief and have a leveling Ele, War and Mes.

I don’t really know what Valkyrie stats is used for, so I’m having trouble choosing weapons. I’m thinking of choosing the sword since Thief, Warrior and Mesmer can all use it, but I’m not sure whether Mes and Warr actually have any uses for Valk stats.

Everyone will have different opinions on this, but here is mine. If you can’t seem to choose a weapon type and aren’t sure if that stat combo will be overly helpful, you can always make it an Aquatic weapon. I think most people will agree with me that Aquatic weapons tend to feel under-powered and that the fight mechanics underwater can be difficult to master, so any Ascended Aquatic weapon is a huge step up, no matter what the stats.

Valkyrie is essentially the same as Berserkers, but with the precision swapped for vitality. Assuming you’re mostly running zerkers already, then think of it as a slight sacrifice of DPS in favour of health. Bear in mind that Ascended weapons have a higher base damage than exotics anyway, so you won’t be giving up too much dps.

Any of your toons can use it. It won’t be absolutely optimal, but it’s reasonably close.

Thanks for the advice insofar, does anyone play thief? I was thinking of using it for maybe a S/D hybrid power build, is Valk stats viable?

Yes. Totally viable for teef. A friend of mine runs a Valk and Cav teef with Assassin trinkets and assassin weapons, and does very well

IMO some Valkyrie gear is good for a WvW thief and fine for PvE. With foods/oils/stacks/sigils/traits you can over-cap crit chance in PvE/WvW.

Sure it’s still a dps loss over full zerk + power stacks/foods. As much of a dps loss as getting 2-shot every time you’re visible and/or not evading? I’d say not.

As a warrior with full acended valk armor, and valk weapons, I love the valk setup. Lots of HP (i tend to look at it as an extra buffer VS conditions). As far as weapon choice, it really depends on what you like playing the most. I prefer Axe/axe for my warrior but thats just me.

Oh, well…uh, not to hijack the thread, but I’ve had the exact same thing happen just now. Got a Valkyrie Ascended Chest, wondering what to take. Mostly playing Mesmer, Ranger, and Guardian right now. Those three share Sword, GS, and Torch…but Torch doesn’t really count. So I guess it comes down to Sword and Greatsword.

GS is a power weapon for all three classes, and Valk is largely a Power type combo, so…GS? Though Sword is a hybrid offense/defense weapon for all three, so that also plays right into Valk…

I see, but are there any tips to mixing valk gear with other sets?
It just steems to me that the extra vitality with no toughness will go to waste after being hit two or three times.

I was thinking of running full valkyrie with soldier (Pow/Tough/Vit) trinkets. Would the extra Vit from Soldier’s trinkets be pointless since I’ve got +Vit form Valk anyway? Should I just use Knight’s (Tough/Pow/Prec) trinkets instead?
