Verdant Brink help?!
Anet expect you to do the zone event chains, over and over and over again.
Going back to WvW then lol
Only wanted to get the HoT hero challenges, but a lot of those require mastery unlocks. Seems like I can get them faster through WvW

Um yeaaa.
No. HoT masterys can only be unlocked by doing HoT content. You can’t lvl them by doing pvp or wvw. Besides, unlocking a first glider mastery takes about 45 min, even less if you have some booster or food doing metaevent on verdant brink. Seems unfair right? Since you have to do xpac content for unlocking masterys you can only use in xpac content. Crazy right?

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did I say anything about unlocking HoT masteries outside of HoT content?! NO! I said unlock the Maguuma hero challenges, which you can do in WvW. Reading comprehension… crazy, right?!

A single event chain would give him enough to unlock gliding. Doing every event chain in HoT just once would give you about enough to unlock the masteries to get most of what you need for most things. A lot of the masteries are nice to have but not really necessary.
Really frustrated with this map. I have no idea what to do. I finished the beginning story missions but then it just stuck me in the middle of this map and tells me I need to unlock the glider mastery to progress. How do I do this?
At this point, it’s much easier doing WvW to unlock hero points.
I’m not sure others picked up on your actual question here.
Go to your Masteries tab, either via the Hero Panel (bottom tab on the left) or by clicking the little icon in the lower right corner of your screen. On the left side click the Gliding line. This puts the Gliding set of masteries in the main panel. Click the check mark to the left of the first tier. This makes Gliding the mastery you are training. You can verify it’s active by mousing over the icon at the lower right to see what’s currently training.
Now go get XP in the HoT maps. Follow event chains; one starts right near the entry WP, the Laranthir Pale Reavers escort. That will lead you to more waypoints and such. If you feel like exploring, do so, gather any nodes you see, everything you do gives you xp and the xp goes to the mastery.
Eventually the mastery xp line will fill up. It will subtly flash white, it’s not real good at notifying you it’s ready. So keep an eye on it as you get near full. If you mouse over the xp bar it will show how much xp you have towards your goal, when they match it’s full. Bring up the mastery panel again, and click on the right side of the Gliding line to spend your mastery point; you should have one just from doing the story leading you into the map. Confirm the spending, and voila, you now have gliding!
To glide, jump down a slope or off a cliff, keeping the space bar held down. Your glider will deploy, with a shrinking endurance bar; when the bar is zero, you fall straight down, but it will refresh at a good rate so you can halt your descent with more space bar taps. The trick to going a distance is to close the glider with a space bar tap, drop a little, open it, go a bit, drop, etc. Later in the mastery tiers you’ll get more skills to go further (you’ll want updrafts for a lot of mobility throughout HoT). But you may want to swap over to Itzel training tier one for bouncing mushrooms before you head for updrafts.
I hope that helps.
Donari, yes that was very helpful! Thank you!
