I bought the 250 worth exotic viper inscription in Auric Basin and was thinking that would help me to get better equipments, then i read people are more recommending going straight to ascended, is that true that its better ?

I currently have Exotic Rampager set for my Ranger and want to go Sinister Viper (Think thats the correct name).
But my question is: Did i waste my 250 worth on Exotic Viper recipe, because i should have gone for Ascended ?

Depends what you want to do… only place where full ascended is 100% mandatory is high end fractals for the AR slots. In raids, it does increase your effectiveness, and some guilds will require you to get ascended for thier runs, or to avoid getting kicked out of PUGs.

Outside of that, nothing else really requires ascended.

The reason people recommend going direct to ascended: it’s expensive to craft viper’s, exotic or ascended. The thinking is: if you’re spending X, why not spend X+Y and get the extra boost?

as One-vs suggests, in terms of the extra stats, depends on your goals. Ascended isn’t really ‘required’ outside of fractals. (It’s, best, strongly recommended for raids and WvW.)

Also, be careful when you read that you should get ascended over exotic because there isn’t much difference in price. The difference may not be significant to some, but it does depend on your situation.

The only time ascended will be comparable to exotics in terms of cost is if you regularly do content that will reward you with ascended items that you can MF to your required stats; fractals and raids.

What I did for my necro was;
I crafted a full set of Beigarth Light armor (forgot if it was knight or soldier)
Then I reforged that in the Mystic Forge to Viper’s
It seemed cheaper at the time, although I’m not quite sure how much exactly.

It may have been cheaper at the time, but the prices are pretty much even atm. From the BLTC link above, Yassith’s Guise is approx 110g (107g at the time I checked)

Using the cheapest coat (Hronk’s):
Hronk’s Guise 98g
Viper’s insignia 9g
x5 Ectos 1.5g
Total 108.5g

If you do the same for the torch (Grizzlemouth’s → Yassith’s), you get a similar result.

Anyway, my point is do your own research. The economy has changed a lot since the beginning of HoT and what was true then may not be anymore. There are plenty of good sites to help you, these are the 3 I personally use:

On the exotic vs ascended debate it depends on what you have on hand. If you’ve got ascended boxes or money, just go for the ascended version. If you’re struggling on money craft the exotic or do what I did and run berserker GS until you have the materials/boxes for the set.

On the stat swap vs straight crafting debate, they’re almost even with straight crafting being cheaper by a few gold. I however think the straight crafting requires a bit more grind as you need fulgurite. However, I was already stacked with fulgurite so I straight crafted my last remaining pieces that I didnt box and swap.
