Waiting for the game to finish installing
From my experience, every profession is ridiculously fun.
So much so that I still have not chosen a main. Although, I AM leaning towards my Charr ranger.
+1 for a ranger, though I am a Norn (wurm and animal forms are awesome).
I heard people say they aren’t enjoying ranger much, I gotta say it took me some levels to understand what the class is truly about.
Now floating at lvl66 I have a hard time creating an alt (I wanna try Necromancer, or Elementalist, no, Engineer!) or spending some time on my Charr Guardian
What kind of game play do you enjoy most? That would be a good start. Though the typical roles have been somewhat blurred in GW2, everyone can do what they want to.
Good timing starting it before the weekend, be prepared to not have any sleep. Enjoy the game! And welcome!!
1) Dont rush max level. Endgame start, in level 1.
2) Try the HardMode: Necromancer with Flesh Golem. They pull enemies without even target on then and don’t attack when you need help.
I have a Guardian and a Ranger. I MUCH prefer the Ranger…. I love all the pets although I must say that the bear pets seem to be the best.
This is comming from a guy who has played clerics for the last 12 years….
Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
Not really into the melee element, mainly prefer to sit far away and chuck some horrible spells in their face! And yeah, I’ve been reading about the endgame and the lack of it! What is all that about? And no such luck Daniil, I am working all weekend (although if it is really good, i may just come down with some severe flu and have to take the foreseeable future off work!)
Zone in, then head off in a direction. No need to check off renown hearts/vistas/POIs… just discover them as you roam around. You’ll have the most fun this way. Pick up the three gathering tools and gather as you go along.
Also, just because you hit level 20 doesn’t mean you have to be in a level 20 zone. I’m a level 80 and I haven’t even stepped foot into a level 80 zone yet (not counting WvWvW because I was scaled up when I tried it). I’m still exploring the level 50-60ish zones.
Hey Guys;
Just bought GW2 and having played the first one to death, was wondering if any of you could give me some pointers? Also, what class?
Cheers in Advance!
Take your time when you create your character. The back story is influenced by a few of the creation options. Also, take time to explore a bit of the starter area, this game is huge!
I have tried each of the classes for 5 levels. So far my favorites are Elementalist and Warrior. They are all fun though! It depends on your play style.
Cheers! Welcome!
Feed them and they multiply.
Please do not feed them.
Gathering tools? << Meganoob.
I loved GW1, and have looked forward to GW2 coming out for a long time. My first character had to be human (felt odd having my first character be anything else), and I went engineer. I also really enjoy my Charr Thief (though my comp. can’t handle melee that well) and my Charr Ranger.
As far as pointers go, your first purchase needs to be gathering tools (axe, pick, sickle). Outside of that, take your time and enjoy the details, because this game is full of them.
Not to start another kittenstorm about endgame, basically what it comes down to is that there is no change in gameplay when you hit 80 compared to when you’re 1-80. You still get to do all the stuff you’ve done while leveling while also working on long term goals like finishing your achievements (crafting, exploration, PvP) as well as working slowly towards getting exotics and legendaries. It’s not that there are/aren’t issues with the endgame, the large chunk of that is that GW2 tries to avoid gear grinding in a typical sense. I hope I could be objective, as I’d hate to be a guy who turns such a positive and light-hearted post into yet another sidist thread.
Another plus about this game, the community is alot better than that of WoW (also playing that, but having a break)
So yeah, looking forward to jumping in!
Play the game as an Adventure game with some multi player aspects. Don’t expect too much, even right now you are too excited. Go into it with a mediocre mindset and never expect to excel at anything nor be bad at anything. Don’t expect to stand out, everything about the game is about blending in.
I say it like it is.

Kirk, once you play GW2, you will not be able to enjoy WoW’s gameplay any more.
Happened with me at least.
