Guild Wars 2

I am considering starting a new character since I’ve played the living crap out of my Guardian since the 3-day head start. Well, that and the fact that my 2,000+ attempts at crafting Dawn or having it drop from supposed chests as well as burning through 400-500+ Ectos and Obsidian shards only to yield 55 mystic clovers have left me crying on my keyboard….. ehrm… ANYWAY…

I did level an Ele to 37, Engineer to 38, as well as a War and Necro to 21. I’ve decided against further leveling my ele, necro and warrior. I am torn however between further leveling my Engineer, starting a mesmer or a thief.

So, my question for you folks is, which of the three would be most versatile in combat at 80(pve and pvp), and which would I least regret grinding through the early content again for the 12th time?

From what you wrote you seem to be pretty well skilled, but from personal experience it’s quite hard to grind through leveling as a thief for sure. (If you’re going hearts/dungeons route). They can be a bit over-squishy while leveling. I still find my thief my most enjoyable toon (Definitely best to take Dagger/Pistol while leveling btw). I also found it hard to level an engineer, and I took qutie a few breaks with him. I feel like they lack so much more than other classes until you get to higher levels with more trait points.

Mesmer. Engis have dps problems, thieves have SEVERE survivability problems. They have some interesting styles from duellers, clone spammers to glamour trolling. Bewarned the earlygame experience for mesmers is bad though. Thieves level faster with S/P than D/P, and are better against champs that way, but timing becomes critical. D/P can spam blinds for an overall easier experience but kill slower and cannot solo champs in melee.

I have 5 level 80s – ranger, elementalist, mesmer, warrior, and thief, a level 67 guardian, level 37 engineer, level 35 necromancer and another mesmer level 41. My favorite is mesmer. There are so many fun ways to play a mesmer I decided to start a 2nd one so wouldn’t have to keep changing trait lines and equipment. I couldn’t wait for my second one to reach 40 so I could get the dodge creates a clone trait.

I didn’t think I would enjoy a heavy metal class but had fun with my warrior and am really enjoying my guardian. My least favorite so far is engineer and thief.

One of the fastest ways to level up is via crafting but that doesn’t contribute to learning how to play the profession.

I have everything except engi at 80 now and would recomend mesmer. Even at low levels for me it was a breeze and very fun.

I would ask why you aren’t interested in leveling the toons you have already begun? Necro can be a blast to play. I have three mains, a ranger, a guardian and a necro. I enjoy the ranger the most, just my preference, but the necro is super lethal in full zerker gear and matched with great ranged AoE. Perhaps it’s the race of the characters?

I’ll agree on Mesmer, it’s an amazingly fun and astoundingly tough profession. It’s pure hax at underwater combat, too, unlike pretty much any other profession (I have 12 80s, at least one of each profession, so I’ve had a chance to get to know them all, not that I claim theorycrafter level expertise).

I have one Mesmer who is GS/sword+pistol, and another who is sword/sword/GS. I’m tempted to do a third one to play with the other weapons. Sure I could just switch out on the alts I have, but I am in need of a new alt to level so may as well be my favorite profession, hey?
