Q:

Hi I’m fairly new to the game. I’m a lvl 27 warrior and I’ve been looking at videos and posts and saw stuff about critical chance and other specs.
Basically my question is what specs should a warrior focus on? Like do I focus on power only or get crit?

At lvl 26 you can get armor with both power and crit. At lvl 65 you can get armor with power, crit, and crit dmg. For leveling using all signets with the deep strikes trait in arms is really good. Greatsword and either longbow or axe are the best weapons for leveling

Focus on power as a primary stat with precision as the minor, when it becomes available. Precision is the stat that gives you critical chance. Reason being that at low levels, you need few points, relative to lvl80, to get very high critical chance. As Carpboy said, traiting Deep Strikes, which is in the Arms line, will gain you massive amounts of critical chance because it is a fixed stat gain. 40 points per unused signet. So at lvl20-39, you gain 1% of crit chance for every 3 points of precision. That means 1 signet will gain you 13% of critical chance. As you gain higher levels, the effect of Deep Strikes drops because the number of stat points require to gain 1% of critical chance increases and maxes out at 21 points of precision for each 1% of critical chance.

Check out this wiki to see how the maths works for critical chance.

The items you should be aiming for are green (masterwork) items with the Mighty prefix. Such as Mighty Iron Greatsword or Mighty Bronze Greatsword. You can also craft these with a weaponsmith and is a great way to add extra character experience.

Personally, I recommend carrying a few different weapons at all times. Standard equipment that you can swap to in combat should be greatsword with longbow. This will give you enough flexibility to deal with most situations. In your pack, I suggest keeping a rifle as well. Longbow has great area of effect (AOE) damage but is very poor against single targets. Rifles have excellent single target damage but no AOE. However the number 5 skill on rifles, Rifle Butt, does cleave which means you can hit more than 1 enemy at a time. However, this means the enemies are in your face.

An alternative to Greatsword is Axe/axe or Axe/mace. Axe and Greatsword benefit from a lot of traits in the Strength and Arms trait lines. Axe also has traits in the Discipline line.

Don’t worry about builds before you get to level 60 or so. All your equipment will need to be replaced frequently (about every 5 levels). When in doubt (and you have a choice), choose items that give Power while you are leveling.

Although traiting Deep Strike was recommended, due to the new trait system I’d suggest to trait it later and put the first two points into either Defense or Tactics to gain more survivability. At Level 48 when one has four points available, Arms could be an option, but even then I’d rather take Deep Cuts over Deep Strike. Take DS at level 60 or 66 when the Master tier is available and you have enough points to both make you more durable and increase your damage output.

At level 26 just wear what drops and don’t spend a copper on equipment. Also, resist the urge to spend your karma on better gear as you level. You shouldn’t worry about equipment level until it is more than 10 or 15 levels below your current level.

If you must spend gold or due to bad drops, buy some Blue items on the Trading Post to tide you over.

Save, Save, SAVE until you reach 80 (then you can start to worry about what to buy). Exceptions are possibly spending karma at LVL 40 & 60 to get a RARE (yellow) weapon or 2 from racial / faction NPC vendors and possibly the Guild Backpieces (LVL 60?).
