Warrior or Guardian as a main
It’s really just a coin flip since you can make builds that are so similar between the two. But, of course, you’ll get fan boys who will practically live and die by one or the other. Personally, I’m liking warrior better than guardian simply because it’s what I prefer in terms of play style and it has definitely served me well. I mean, as far as PvE goes, if a build can solo champions, then it’s good enough in my book and both classes can do that pretty easily. The same for WvW: If you can make a build that will actually “turn the tide” in a given encounter all by itself, then that’s good enough. An example of this would be with the support aspect of both classes. If you can approach a battle and you can clearly see that your side is losing but once you start adding your healing/support measures, your side suddenly starts dominating, then that’s a good build. But, again, it’s just a matter of playing them both, feeling them out, and seeing what you like more.
Play both into the 30’s when you can mess with elites. Then you’ll have had enough time to get a feel for both. Personally Guardian is boring as far as gameplay is concerned. I’ve tried 3 times. Its Warrior for me.
I play both as mains, primarily in WvW. Some of the main differences:
Warrior has more build versatility, but Guardian is stronger at protecting and healing your teammates and self-healing.
They are the only two heavy armor classes in the game, but Warrior is heavily offensive oriented, Guardian is heavily defensive oriented.
You can make a Warrior defensive-oriented too with build and gear, but it can never be as strong defensively as a full bunker spec’d Guardian.
Likewise, you can make a Guardian offensive-oriented too with build and gear, but it can never be as powerful as fully offensive-spec’d Warrior.
Warrior has significantly better ranged options, Guardian has the strongest potential “sustain” (self healing) in the game.
Whichever you choose, if you hope to do any PvP, I strongly suggest picking Asura for the race. Both Guardian and Warrior suffer the same problem of many of their best attacks being very easy to anticipate, see the “tell”, and avoid, even moreso on the larger races. Tiny Asura’s smaller radius weapon swings and movements help with that.
Wow thanks for the responses guys. I’ve went ahead and made a warrior and have been leveling him thus far for now. It’s been good so far and has actually been a fun experience. I think the range thing and the ease of making builds was the deciding factor in the end. Thanks again guys.
Great, in case it helps, warrior leveling build.
