Guild Wars 2

Has anyone been in a similar predicament and if so how did you decide?

I am posting here because I figured if I posted in the G/W forums the response would be biased. There are no damage/dps forums so here I am.

I have always had ALTitis and with GW2 I want to have more of a true main character. The problem is really the amount all of these classes offer is mind boggling. I have realized over the years that I need to have an alt just to break the monotony. I have also learned after trying all of these classes in GW2 to at least 20 and even re-rolling some higher level characters that I am not much of a caster. Having range is nice but I am not a cloth kinda guy.

This all led me to Thief/Guardian/Warrior – I flat out love the melee weapons and getting in the mix. I have been a LONG time rogue so thief will probably be my alt. Deciding between Warrior and Guardian has been a nightmare. I finally decided to just roll them both and I still can’t figure it out yet they are too similar to have one as my main and one as my alt.

My warrior is level 80 with 3 pieces of exotic armor from Orr. I like that he carries around a big greatsword and can range with the longbow. My guardian is level 64 and is just as cool with the greatsword. A little weak with range but that’s ok. The “blue” color of the skills on my bar and the blue spell animations make up for it. “I have purchased electronics because of that blue color”. I am really at a loss here. To the point that I am frustrated. I mainly play solo occasionally playing with a friend. I love to play WvWvW and enjoy all aspects of it. Zerging, defending a keep, taking a supply depot etc.

I only have a Guardian and I suck at WvWvW, but that’s just me. Still, I find it fun to play and challenging in WvWvW.

Go for Guardian. Note that that advice is biased. lol

I created 3 Warriors already (create, then deleted then created again and deleted again…), highest being level 10ish – I think it’s not just my play style.

Guardian if you ever wanna support, Warrior if your selfish (which is fine), I am selfish on my Mesmer

@Wooboost Define selfish.. I agree that it’s not a bad thing, just curious what you meant.

May I ask, what is your play style? Do you go all out offensive or the thinking “kill before getting killed” or do you like to take your time, pull mobs and show them your defense?

For wvw if you also learn the staff you can put up a barrier that can block a gate entrance & won’t let other team in a bit longer

Until they realise that they can dodge roll through it or just jump through it. Welcome to broken skills.

Guardian is more fun, you can play attack, defense, healer/buffer/support. Warrior basically you just going to play attack.

I like both classes, but I dual wield axes on my warrior or switch to axe / shield depending on the mobs. Dual axes is a ton of fun…love the “clank” sound eviscerate makes when it hits, lol.

Heck, you like alts anyway…who says you can’t have 2 mains?

Hard to say. I like getting up in the mix and kill before getting killed but in saying that I will say that it seems like I can do this better with a guardian. Mainly because I stay alive longer or at least it seems I have more tools to do so.

I just hit 77 on my guardian thanks to crafting last night. I might just have to have 2 mains until I can figure this out.

This has been weighing on me as well. If there is anything that puts the guardian ahead it may be this. Choices are always a good thing.
