Hi All,
I’m pretty new to the game and I’m currently a level 109 weaponsmith. Not sure where I left off in the guide, so I started back at it trying to make the items in the level 100-125 range. I bought all the materials, made the insignias, hafts and axe blades, mace heads, hammers and spears. When I go to craft them though, I put an item in and most of the other items become greyed out and I can’t seem to make anything new. I’m stuck now at level 109 and not sure what to do to proceed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Use the discovery panel to discover new items, or you can buy recipies from profession trainer near crafting station.

From the sound of it you were using a crafting guide. The thing with those is when you reopen the page it reupdates the cheapest way. If your using those you’ll always want to stop at a 25 mark.

For we’re you are at now you’ll have to find what your missing to make complete itesm up to 125 and then refresh the guide and keep going.

Go to GW2 Wiki about Weaponsmith and look how to create recipes (those will give you lvl XP). Depending on how much materials you have already collected so far, you will probably not have to buy or gather material to continue lvl up weaponsmith. Remember to sell items at TP both to clear out space in inventory and bank, and to what is worth to have in the future for your own use. Check for prices before you decide on which set of inscription you want to craft, both for what you would get to sell inscription, refined mats or even the weapon itself. This is easily done by using GW2 wiki for Weaponsmith (link below).

Inscription decide which stats a weapon will have and as your level will become higher the higher quality (=better stats) your inscription will have. There are three tier within the same inscription, so you will get access to a higher tier when you progress.

Guide:

Use GW2 Wiki both to see prices for mats and weapons, and to see how to make recipes (some will be automatically given access as you pass through requirements level, other you will need to buy). The more you create yourself, instead of buying inscription or refinement on TP, the more lvl XP you will get out from being at that current level. It will be better while you are at lvl 109 to first make as much wood drowel from soft wood planks that you can make use of, then when you later would be at level 300-400 to do the same thing. You might notice there will be a change in colour as you level up on refinement and for each category of weapon where some will be white other yellow or red etc to indicate that you now have access to that levels recipes and now can use that tiers materials in refinement and creation (including discovery) of inscription.

As an example make sure that you finish Initiate level through doing all refinement which is need for that tier (make iron ingot : take a look here), create 1 inscription for each type of stat that you will have access to at your current level and then prepare two pieces of each weapon type (hilt + blade for dagger). Depending on how you want to do it systematically, you can create 4 new inscription from level 100 and pick four type of weapon (as an example Dagger, GreatSword, Sword and Spear) and this mean that you will need 8 pieces for each type form refinement up to hilt + blade (look in link provided for exact combo). For Dagger you will now be able to use four different kind of inscription [stats] (meaning same material from iron hilt and iron blade can be placed four times in discovery panel with each inscription; put first your inscription in one slot, then what ever piece belonging to iron dagger and you will now have everything else greyed out to find your next piece for dagger that you have in your material storage, bank or inventory).

cont.

Make sure to clear out space in inventory as a full inventory will stop this process of discovery (it can be hard to see that your inventory have become full after a while with all windows open during progress and discovery pane isn’t very clear about why you can’t discover or create anything). First use Deposit All Materials in inventory (up right corner in inventory) to move all intermediate refinements like iron ingot to empty space in your material storage instead of fulling up your inventory which are used when you discovery or create something, then move the rest to empty space in bank. Sell what you do not need yourself and remember to list it and not sell it directly to get the price you find acceptable (don’t list it too high), that way you will get some money back and it most cases it will not be total loss. With the right inscription (and discovery create recipes which you will see in your pane) you will now be able to create more of items that have some value on TP. Up to around lvl 300 it is not that very hard to gather materials in the world of Tyria, but after that it will be more expensive and you need to be careful in what weapon you craft as this will also be a larger loss if market change. Those guides are good for fast getting collecting public prices from TP, but you don’t need those if you now understand how to make use of GW2 WIKI both to learn which recipes you can use discovery for or which one that have to be bought and where you will fast getting prices on mats when you are not in game and can use BL TP.

PS. Don’t forget that vendor where you have your crafting station sell you important crafting materials (which are also cheaper then on TP) and these vendors have recipes that you might want to use (especially ascended recipes). Outside of weapon from weapon smith, you will also be able to craft boxes for inventory slots, back packs and sigils which all also have their tiers and are part of discovery pane (back pack is only depending on lvl).
