Out of curiosity can someone tell me what this is?

It’s not a world event, the rotmouths aren’t mobs in the same way they are in Orr, they insta-kill and are almost impossible to kill themselves.

I can’t find any reference in the Wiki for Rotmouths in this zone. Just what is this ‘event’ all about?

They show up when the map failed to defeat Tequatl when he appears. I think they stay until the next teq happens.

As above, a map did not kill Tequatl, they stay until 1 minute before the next Teq lands.

Not sure what you need them for but they are commonly known as the “fish heads” and they are easy to find by [Splintered Coast] Waypoint on a failed Tequatl map as others have said.

They can also be found in Orr (cursed shore) and as part of your personal story (a grisly shipment). You can kill them by dodging through them.
