What Race To Be?
Him?
It goes female Sylvari > female Asura > male Sylvari > male Charr > the rest, for me (in general, not for Engineers).

Mine is a female human- for some reason people don’t roll female engineers 0_0
Charr. They are the quintessential Engineer race.
To me, charr scream combat engineer while asura scream alchemist, and humans make fitting representatives of any class.
Look on the Guild Wars2 wiki on the races out there to see if some racial skills look appealing, beyond that go with what appeals to you as they’re all quite capable. Lastly in the wiki you might want to preview the racial armor as you can only get this armor with specific races (not the same with the weapons anyone can purchase). Good luck.

Very good advice. There’s a ton of armor in the game that will look very good on an engineer of any race, but there might be one set of cultural armor that just screams engineer to you.
Well, don’t go for an Asura if you are into the looks of nice armor.
It’s not that Asuras didn’t have appropriate racial armor, but they are so awful tiny that you won’t see any of the details most of the time or if you do, they cover the whole character because they are oversized for the size of the armor.
The light dungeon armor from twilight arbor is one of the worst examples how armor designs can go wrong if the character is to small. Every Asura wearing that armor looks like a walking pot plant or weed.
My engineer is a female norn.
When I got this game I knew I wanted a human ranger, a charr thief and I also wanted an elementaist and an engineer and a sylvari and a norn. I kept switching them around in my mind but in the end I decided sylvari ele and norn engi fit best.
I made her female because that seemed to fit the character and the name I had in mind better.
