What am I in for?
I’d recommend posting in the Engineer thread too btw.
From what I understand, right now condition engis are super strong in PvP and WvW roaming.
They’re still quite viable in PvE too, being a jack of all trades. The turrets will be getting some much-needed love with the Oct 15 patch. Hopefully that will make them more viable in zerg and dungeon settings.
All in all, engi are a good choice because they’ll offer you a variety of play styles and will not become boring in the way warrior or ranger can. Don’t expect them to be as faceroll easy as your warrior & guardian experiences. They require more traits to bring out their strengths so don’t get discouraged at low levels if you feel underpowered. You’ll become a bouncing ball of explosions by the time you hit 60.

Engineer is strong in sPvP. There are two main viable builds. One is a bunker build. They mainly stand on home point or mid point and try to hold that until there are reinforcements. This build has very high regen/healing along with automatic protection whenever you have knocked down, stunned, immob, etc.
The other more roaming build would be condition grenade build. I didn’t much care for this build, but I think it’s very strong when in 2v2 or 3v3 fighting over a point. There’s a lot of AoE and conditions.
PvE they seem to be a little weaker. It really depends what you want to do in PvE. But engineers usually aren’t a highly desired class for dungeons. Pure PUGs will probably view it as a tier C class, while coordinated groups might view it as Tier B.
Thanks for the responses.
Also, I’ve watched several roaming condi engineer videos and there seems to be some hate towards them. Any idea why?

If it’s WvW roaming, then it’s likely due to Perplexity Runes, as they are stupidly strong in many peoples view.
For leveling, I suggest starting with conditions, as burn is powerful at low levels when you can’t stack much power/crit damage. Use pistol/pistol and/or bomb kit. Around the mid to high levels, you can switch it up however you like when you have the talents and stats to fool around.

They are incredibly powerful for roaming I believe. The hate stems from not understanding how they fight.
The bad people will try to burst them down immediately, getting blocked and not succeeding, then die from the conditions/confusion that was placed on them.
Same thing that happened to mesmer. I DON"T UNDERSTAND CLONES! HAX!
One time I saw this expereinced engi in wvw..he was amazing. Took on four or five us for a good few minutes, it was scary how good he was. about two dozen small red aoe circles all around him, impossible not to step in at least one of them. i had so many stacks of condi on me, bleeds, cripples, etc. dude was dodging backwards and doing cartwheels, seemed to be teleporting around aroudn the place like some sort of circus performer…i was melee and couldnt even touch him. Eventually we got him, but only because there were like 10 of us. However I wouldnt recommend engi if your new as watching that dude fight, it rly takes a lot of skill and expertise to pull something like that off. I’d recommend you start off wilth a warrior to learn the ropes. Simple mechanics to learn and master (GS to the face, shout your enemies to death, carry banners, etc.) and overall very easy to play, with a perfect mix of dps, group support and survivability (once you get the hang of timing your dodge rolls). IMHO every group needs a warrior who knows how to hold their ground and spam bursts like a champ.
