Q:
What am doing wrong as a warrior?
A:
You seem to have figured it out, don’t melee champions. they have a nasty habbit of one-shotting everything in melee range. We really have no choice but to back off and use a rifle.
sum up, stop melee’ing Champs.
You’re not missing much. In the chaotic boss fights of dynamic events, it’s impossible to see the boss telegraph it’s attacks so you can’t dodge out of the way. Have a rifle or longbow on hand and only jump in if you see the boss use it’s AOE attack (and a bunch of people go down).
For the dungeons it’s a little better. With less people and particle effects flying around you should be able to see the bosses telegraph their attacks and dodge out of the way. Still, you have to be on your game and use interrupt skills at the right moment as well as dodge.

Ok thanks, both of these replies pretty much confirm what I was thinking.
The problem is you aren’t smashing your face on the keyboard hard enough.
What I’ve been doing is circling around them. Other than aoes and ranged attacks, enemies have to face you then attack for damage to be done to you. Between those two steps if you are moving they rarely ever land a hit.
Again this is against their melee attacks. However I find that when they are using Hammers,Great swords or anything with a large arcing attack it stops me in my tracks. Try it out and see though.

Came here to post this pic in a suggestion forum.. but hey… no suggestion forum.
Spell effects slider… would be REALLY nice to tone down OTHER people’s effects (on mobs only… gotta seem them combo fields) so I can actually see what’s going down.

I may not be as high level yet, (lv 30 warrior at the moment) but I find that full toughness/vitality traits and gear really help me stay in the fight meleeing against a champion. I can take more than a couple hits from a champion, couple that with weapons that have blocks/stuns/dazes/knockdowns like hammers, maces, and to a lesser extent the shield, AND utility skills like Endure Pain and bull’s charge among others and you can stay in there meleeing and take quite a beating. I do have to dodge every now and then and switch to a ranged option if I get too low on health, but after I heal back up I’m back in there again. Remember that melee weapons do more damage than ranged ones, so even if you trait and gear defensively you will still do more damage than a lot of ranged fighters.
Also… though I know it’s hard a lot of times with the cluster f—- of spell effects in some events… try to keep an eye for guardian bubbles, necromancer’s wells and the like, as these can provide nice boons or mild healing.
Obviously what you’re doing is ok and normal. You’re dying less! It’s really up to you. If you really really want to be melee you’re going to have to do things to help you stay alive. As others have said when possible to see when a boss is using a big move you’ve got to get out. Also I’m not familiar with the Warrior traits but I’d assume there’s at least 1 trait line that helps with survivability so it might be worth checking those out or picking some utility skills that can help out.
Either way I think you’re doing fine. You saw there was a problem and you’ve adapted to the situation which is what this game is all about.
Here is the warrior strategy guide for boss fights:
Try and carry 2 sets of accessories (rings, amulet, earrings) one for DPS and then a toughness/vitality set for harder hitting mobs.
