What are you supposed to do at 80?
An option if you don’t want to salvage gear is just to farm rares and put them in the forge – you’ll get exotics from doing so and if you can’t use those sell them to afford exotics on the TP. Tis how I did it…
The exotics you get from dungeons are really tokens you get then trade to an NPC vendor in L.A. for gear. All exotics have the same levels of stats just in different categories to enable various builds… so whether you buy from TP or get from dungeon the only differences will be skins.
Exotics can also be crafted, though I know nothing about that process meself.
if you have been gathering ores and other crafting ingredients as you have been playing, it might be worth looking into leveling one or two crafting skills. It is possible that you have enough materials saved up to allow you to craft you own lvl 80 exotics… or at the very least make some money towards that goal.
Thanks for the swift answers. I keep forgetting about the mystic forge. The only time I used it was during lost shore event to buy better harvesting and a 35 rifle for my warrior.
Another thing to note is that not all people require exotics/dont check for them when they do pick up groups.

Personally I don’t even require people to be level 80… it’s more fun when there’s more of a challenge lol.
It’s kind of hard to check gear in this game…
Crafting level 80 rares doesn’t require ecto (and salvaging them is also my primary source of ecto these days), and the gear is almost as good as exotics. Some groups will mandate 80 with exotics, but you don’t want these groups, especially if you’re not familiar with the dungeon in question.
I joined a group for AC explorable the other day on my 34 elementalist (who has done explroable runs before) only to start getting flak from one of the other members. “Too low” was his response to my “Hello.” Knowing that being sub-35 is an issue for people, i was fully prepared to switch to my 80 guardian. His response to “I have an 80 guardian” was “good for you.” Not “ok, well, you better switch” or “OK, thats better.” Some people are jerks. I couldn’t leave that group fast enough and, based on the fact that they were in AC for ~4 hours, I probably made the right choice. Most people are not this way (the other 2 people in the group at the time I joined were very nice), so don’t let it discourage you when you find some that are.

^ As Fildy says you don’t want be with these people anyway that require exotics.
AC is the first dungeon what gives?!
If you want to run a story or something ask some folks over at Operation: Union.
They’re always willing to help.
I can help you if you’re on an EU server.
I don’t mind people that are sub par along as they’re willing to learn and have good teamwork skills. You just got to be prepared to work a bit more.
I’ve been running since lvl 27 all the way to 80 by only running dungeons.
Don’t let bad people discourage you!

Now, calling people who require exotics bad isn’t accurate.
I personally only run with lvl 80’s with exotics. And I do that because I want to get in and out of the dungeon as fast as possible. One can only run AC so many times before you’re just tired of it but it’s a great source of quick and easy tokens and gold.
Does this make me bad? No. Does it make me elitist? Probably. And i’m ok with that. And it works for me.
^ If you want to do that easier to form/join a guild for that stuff. Most folks that PUG AC are the ones with less experience or starting their first explore.
Sorry got nothing against you, I just think Elitist + whatnot = Bad in general.
I wouldn’t like it happening to me and so wouldn’t like it happening to others.

Someone mentioned to farm rares to salvage for ecto or throw them into the mystic forge. Which areas have mobs that drop rares?
All areas have mobs that drop rares.
Your best bet is to take some MF gear and food into Orr and head to the tunnel and farm the events there. Lots of high-lvl loot you can sell/salvage as well as lots of rares.
To me dungeons are supposed to be a fun time with other ppl. I have had a lot of fun with guildies and others doing them. Have had people w/o exotics and lower levels than required. I have run across a few kittens who were kitten about how we were doing it.

You certain of this? I was about to say the same thing but I’ve never seen rare gear lower than level 20, so I’d have to jump on the game to see what the lowest rare gear available is to see what zones you could get drops in.
And if you’re about to mention the gear-scales-to-level thing that doesn’t exactly work. Some people get random results – personally all the gear I get from drops is always scaled whilst none of the weapons I get from lower level zones are ever 74+… they always reflect the level of the zone I’m in.
Having two 80’s now it seems to me there are 3 things to do after hitting 80.
1) Work on 100 percent map completion.
2) Complete personal story.
3) Grind/Farm (cough.. Horizontal progression)

That’s true. The lowest yellow is lvl 30? and you don’t get ectos under 68. But in my personal experience I’ve gotten lvl 74 yellows from lvl 40+ maps, so down leveling still works. And it should be even better now that they’ve increased the amount and lvl of loot that down leveled people usually get.

For what it’s worth, I got an Exotic level 76 weapon as a random drop on my 80 from a centaur while playing in Gendarran (25-35) a few days ago. Wasn’t part of a DE.
Probably because of the change they made. I think it probably has a lower drop rate then in Orr though, if only because Orr has the events with so many mobs and lower-level zones don’t have nearly as large a scale.
