I bought the game a long time ago, and sort of just facerolled my way through PvE content that was waaaay below my level all the way to 80 at the time.

Now i’m returning with a few friends, we’re sort of playing in a group, nothing serious just having a bit of fun… but i’m sort of stuck when it comes to what class I should play.

I’m looking for something that can just dive into a group of 5, 10 mobs and AoE them down, coming out more-or-less no worse for wear and able to do so again pretty much instantly… Up until now i’ve been playing a Greatsword guardian that revolves around stacking Might and using Retaliation alongside the whirlwind to AoE things down… now my guardian kills things at a decent speed, and his cooldowns are nice and short, but he’s extremely fragile. I can usually only kill 5 or 6 guys at a time, and end up barely alive at the end of the fight.

Since i’m playing in a group, we tend to kill things pretty fast, but because i’m in the middle of everything i’m always taking extremely heavy damage and have to hang back and wait to heal more often than not. I’ve started using a staff as my second weapon because it’s primary attack heals, which is nice for me, and nice for everyone else… but I’ve been wondering if there is anything better?

Guardian seems to be the perfect choice for you. What you need to work on are you active defense skills, in this case blindness.

There is a nice trait combo for the guardian which effectively allows you to spam aoe blindness as long as you kill enemies

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Renewed_Justice together with http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Justice_is_Blind.

You may also consider rebinding your F1 skill in this case because you will be able to spam this key like mad

GuildWars 2

Currently playing Heart of Thorns.

The Warrior seems to fit what you want to play. They have the best health in the game, some solid melee AoEs, the highest armor, and are built to just power their way through throngs of MoBs. Their healing signet is a better heal than a Guardian’s Virtue of Resolve and since none of their weapons are designed as support weapons (the Guardian is a support class), they all do pretty nicely.

Try some hammer action with your Guardian, and then try some with a Warrior.

You want to power your way through MoBs coming out pretty much no worse for wear? The Warrior is what you seek.

Thanks.

It’s as I have always said,
“You can get more results with a kind word and a big stick,
than you can with merely a kind word.”

Both heavy classes are indeed more friendly than the others. When you get the hang of active defences, guardian become easier. That’s just my opinion but I find guardian far more enjoyable and useful to a party.

just played this game not long ago i spent a whole week testing all classes, at the very beginning guardian is my no1 choice and my second choice will be engineer until i created my warrior and this guy made me felt crazy than ever i can’t come back to my guard no matter how hard i try. I don’t know whether regret or happy about my decision but yeah !! now i love my war more than my guard and never regret to make that choice.

Warriors are a cleave class, they don’t AoE as well. GS/Hammer specced guards with blind/vuln spam fits OP description better than warriors do. Hammer AA rotation does greater damage than the greatsword AA rotation and also applies protection so you and your allies take less damage as well. Staff heal is inferior to Hammer damage reduction in the grand scheme of things, Virtue of Resolve and any of the heals, especially the block-based heal (think it’s called ‘Shelter’?) should be more than sufficient.

The guardian is out AoEd by engineers, but it requires far more coordination to survive in an engineer so that bit doesn’t tally with your request.

Stick with guard, change weapon set to Hammer/GS, open fights by leaping into mobs with GS3, drop GS4, GS2, switch to Hammer and just autoattack until GS is back up again, then GS2, GS4, aa till hammer… etc etc, spamming Justice whenever anything dies for more blind, vuln, burn and might after you trait them appropriately.

Z6: II, VII, XIII
R3: VI
Va0
H4: III, VIII
Vi1

This should probably set you off pretty well. Vary as needed. Changing Z6 to Z5 and getting Vi2: VI is a common modification that improves your utility in a group. Crits feed might, so you want probably berserker or a berserker-assassin mix. If desiring slightly greater survivability, change berserker pieces for Knight rather than Soldier, and get heal-on-crit foods like the Omnomberry Pie.

Note that 80% of actually playing this game properly is learning to AVOID damage….not just dishing it out.
