What class for me?
Play each of the characters you enjoy equally. Every time you log in, do so on a different character. Or log in on whatever character best helps you complete the Daily Achievements. If your warrior is in Kryta, and your Elementalist is in Ascalon, play the warrior when the Daily requires 40 kills in Kryta and the Elementalist when it requires 4 events in Ascalon.
Well, you start off with five character slots. Fill them up. After I got my guardian to 80 I couldn’t figure out what to do from there, so I’ve basically been creating a new character about once a week, playing it until I get bored, deleting it, trying a new character… lather rinse repeat. So far I’ve found that I’ve deleted 3 necromancers, 2 rangers, 2 Elementalists, 3 Mesmers, 2 warriors, 3 thieves… then I took a break. Now I’ve got a lvl 34 Elementalist and a lvl 22 thief that i’m both enjoying and think i will actually level up to 80 after learning a little more about the intricacies of those classes. The other two slots are still wild cards though.
You also shouldn’t feel obligated to play a character that you’re not interested in just because you decided previously that “this is the one, i’m getting it to 80.” Play what you want when you want, or don’t play at all until you’re ready to come back to it. It’s not like you’re paying a subscription fee, and you own the game, so it will still be there.
Maybe for you class doesn’t really matter? Think about why anyone would play an MMO. They’re inherently social experiences. Create a character and look for dynamic events to do with people until you can start running dungeons. If you’re playing with other people you will forget about your class and the grind of solo play. Sometimes it helps just to get lost in the excitement of the group oriented play.
Ultimately, don’t make the game feel like Work, it’s there for fun. I mean, that’s why you bought it right?

Thank you for the replies, I think I will try both of your suggestions, play the dailies on the higher level characters and delete and create lower ones until I Find something I want to stick to

I do have a better suggestion you can try.
You can enter (Heart of the Mist) and your char will be boosted to lvl80 with all weapons/utilities/armor/traits accessed and experiment them and train with them to see if the profession is your style or not.
I do have a Training method you can give a try. =) If you log into the game now I can show you and help u find the class that you like for a main.
PM me if your interested

Bear in mind that playing the same content (low level zones, in this case) repeatedly can, with some players, lead to burnout. And if you’re going to be deleting characters often, remember to bank their gear and money and spend their karma on something account-bound that your other characters can use (i.e. salvage kits, gathering tools, etc).
Caster or Hard hitting melee… Sounds like Mesmer since they’re a bit of both :p

The only problem I’ve run into with this before is that it gets my hopes up for awesomeness but the awesomeness is so far away lol
I would go learn with Abaddon, he knows his stuff. Otherwise I would go with either a Guardian or an Elementalist.
Mesmer is definitely the best class.
Engineer man! They’re wacky, have cool gadgets and can hold their own with any class. All the kits mean only ele has more weapon options.
something i have not seen anyone mention,
STOP!! i mean it, STOP thinking about ranger and mages as exclusively ranged, Rangers for instance actually do more damage in melee than range but have a ton of kiting tools to boot, Mesmer can go melee or ranged, in fact in each given fight you will go in and out of melee very often with the mesmer, and you also have a ton of group utility skills in PvP and PvE.
likewise don’t think of the thief as a rogue, or even a thief, yes you can use stealth to great effect but there are other builds like venom-share which is done from range mostly.
even the warrior, you can rifle (or bow not an expert) and play a sniper, my friend does that in WvW picking off the mesmers and guardians mostly, pretty effective. (zerg im referring too).
the beauty of all this? unless you wish to posses a legendary or get the ascended rings / amulets and insist these are a must have (which they are not, at least until you get to certain fractal levels but by then you’ll have them anyway) you can make and play as many characters as you like with no grind, no gear catch-up just the fun.
Myself i would recommend you the ranger, mesmer, warrior or elementalist.

^ Very good advice here.
