I’ve recently started playing with some friends and we are planning on doing dungeons together.

I know that there is no healers and such in this game, but I would like to roll a profession that would be most helpful to them in terms of support and versatility (boons, etc).

So, I’m wondering which class has the best support overall?

Thanks.

I’d say either Ele (great AoE, plus spammamble weakness, plus snares, plus boons for attunement changes, blast finishers in combo fields, and evasive arcana, near perma group swiftness, etc, etc)
Or guardian (don’t play one, but I know they get reflect walls and plenty-o-boons)

I think guardians may run a bit weaker on dps than ele’s. mesmers have some good boon options but are more single-target fighters and have stealth. Rangers are weak boon-wise. I can’t as yet speak for necro, engineer or thief, other than to say that built right, necros can be Very tanky. Shout warriors I believe build around boons & banners, but I’ve not looked up the build.

There’s no real best support – they all do different things.

With that in mind though it seems the class you want to roll is either a guardian or a mesmer.

Guardians are pretty straightforward with their support options – direct boon application and maintainence, and depending how you build can provide support in other ways.

Mesmers are more roundabout in boon application and need better timing, but they are alot more versatile in what they do, its more of an aggressive support role.

Depending on what kind of support you would like to be both can fit your needs. If you’d like something more in depth drop me a PM and I’ll advise as best I can.

Agreeing with those above, all professions have some support options and you can specialise for them. Elementalists can take a back-row healer role with a staff and an emphasis on water attunement, and guardians are good and dishing out healing and boons while in the midst of things and/or tanking – those are the two most obvious for me. There are other good options though.

As a general guide, weapons tend to have fairly similar role specialities across professions. Anyone who can use a staff, staff is probably their best support option. Warhorns are often buffs (or debuffs) of some kind. By contrast, greatsword is pretty much always your big damage option if you have it. Any class can go support with the right weapon and the right trait lines.

I play all the professions. I really can’t say that one class is superior to another in terms of support. If I were you, I just roll the profession that interested me the most and then look at support as an option while maintaining decent dmg.

Since all classes have some degree of self heal and de-buff…there really isn’t a real need for dedicated healing / support. Unless, thats just what you and your group wanna do.

So I’m gonna hijack my own thread here, heh.

Someone informed me that they wanted to roll more supporty-boon instead, so I’m just wondering what is really needed for dungeons and such.

I know that it can be done with almost any composition, and there are no defined roles, but we would like for our party to allow optimum synergy between our choice professions.

What else would be really desired for dungeons? Is there need for debuffers or someone who almost constantly lays down AoE/Combo Fields?

Thanks again!

Whatever we tell you today will be bad intel by the time you hit 80…

Lots of folks looking for Warriors- glass cannon builds for dungeon runs.

It’s not necessarily what class is needed; it’s who can play their class well that matters.

Every class has amazing support. It depends on the situation.

Elem: AoEs, Healing, CC, Swiftness, Projectile Defender.
Guardian: CC, Healing, Protection, Retaliation, Condition Cure, Swiftness, Blind, Projectile Defender.
Warrior: Healing, Condition Cure, CC, Swiftness.
Engineer: CC, Healing, Protection, Condition Cure.
Necromancer: CC, Condition Cure, Healing, Blind.
Thief: Stealth, Blind, CC.
Mesmer: Haste/Quickness, Confusion, Rez, Projectile Defender, CC.
Ranger: CC, Healing, Protection?.

I’m sure all classes have more support skills that what’s listed. I’m just tossing out some off the top of my head.

Btw, you said there’s “no healers” Guardian can somewhat play that healing roll. Just have your group get some sort of healing power so that your healing skills can benefit them a little more. Healing Bow, Virtue of Resolve (Group can have passive healing effect and if u get the trait you can make it’s effect stronger and cure conditions if needed) Hold the line, and w/e other healing skills you want to add or skills u prefer

engineer is also good for heals, med kits, elixer gun.
elem has geyser, healing rain. not much but eh it can help.
warrior has regen banners or healing shouts.
necro has a well they can heal with.
thief can heal with stealth and they have a few other skills that can heal group too I belive.
ranger has healing spring and the elite healing pet.

one thing you can also do is purchase these healing trees that you can buy from a merchant, I forget where but they’re pretty nice and useful to have if u need extra heals.

I ran a Guardian with a pure support build for awhile. Guardians are built for boons, which make them a pretty good fit for support. Recently, I switched to a DPS build and I definitely see a deference in the team’s success during dungeon runs. So, I would recommend a Guardian with a support build (and there are plenty of examples on the Guardian boards).

I think Engineers have a some pretty good support options with elixirs and kits.

But, all classes have the ability to run support builds. So, the most important factor, is if the class is fun for you to play.

@"What’s needed for dungeons"

1 – Guardians. Needed Everywhere. Always. FotM groups you can have 3-4 and you’ll still win and in fact it makes it easier to do so because you completely negate boss projectiles once you hit saturation.

2 – Well played warriors. Highest dps per char. 100b, etc.

3 – Mesmers – Time Warp. Projectile blocks. I don’t need to say more.

Honorable Mention – Elementalists – Added support/healing while having fairly good DPS due to high uptime when played well. C. fields are a bonus. Potentially the worst class if played poorly, though, since it has the lowest base hp of the game and is very susceptible to dying.

Healer-y “Support”? Ele, Engi, Guards.

Other classes have been covered well, though Engineers can(in terms of support): aoe regen, aoe heal, water fields, fire fields, epic condition removal, CCs.

Necros actually have quite a few healing options:

- Well of Blood provides area regen
– Life Transfer with the Transfusion trait provides an area heal. This is really big as it has a very sizeable area heal (somewhere around 2700 per ally at level 80) and does a decent amount of area damage as well. It does not heal yourself though.
– Mark of Blood provides regen within the mark’s radius when it is triggered.
– Deathly Invigoration provides an area heal when leaving death shroud (which you should be trying to do after every cooldown).
– Reaper’s Touch (Focus #4 skill) provides some regen, though I don’t think it hits very reliably.

Do a lot of these as often as you can and you will be a big boon to your group.
