Have you guys noticed, or did some math, on what is best to do with the loot you get in the game? Especially with the whites, blues and green drops? Do you salvage them or vendor them? And if you do salvage them, what type of salvage kits do you use?

I usually salvage everything but the green heavy armour and weapons that give metal. That’s because I need the mats to craft. And I allways use the white one with 25 uses, but for the yellows, for them I use the yellow one to try to get the tier 6 mats.

I salvage white, vendor blue, and tradepost green and up.

Unless I’m short on materials, in which case I salvage blues and greens with unpopular stats as well, or I want coin quickly, in which case I vender everything below yellow.

I only use Basic Salvage Kits, since I’m not really aching for crafting materials, so why spend the extra coin. I do however lug Black Lion salvage kits around with me for when I really really want to keep an upgrade from something.

It’s not math, just personal experience on what works for me.

I only salvage the “salvage items”. Like the bit of metal or shredded rag items that I get. I’ll sell green or better on the trading post if the price is higher than vendor + 1 copper. I’ll simply vendor everything else.

For me, though, all of my crafters are past tier 1 items and nearly past tier 2. That is, my tailor is done with jute, and mostly done with wool. So spending extra coin to salvage the items I get — which are highly likely to give those two materials, considering where I play most often — doesn’t make much sense. If I was still leveling tailoring through tier 1, I’d salvage more of the light armor pieces. If I was still leveling my armor smith, I’d salvage more weapons and heavy pieces. And so on.

I salvage anything that is relative to my characters usage so I can get the same mats. I don’t salvage too much medium armor as a heavy wearing warrior, because I don’t need the leather. Occasionally I will to sell the leather in the TP.

Since I’m past using copper ore for crafting, any weapons that are under my current craft level of 98 I sell if they are decent copper. So lvl 20 and under weapons will give me ore, lvl 21+ will give me the iron. I also salvage staffs and bows lvl 21+ for the soft wood for crafting at my lvl. Again, If the copper value is decent, I’ll sell it. Need money for the TP for the fine materials I never can get enough of.
