What happens to armor if you equip a new piece with a full inventory?

I had an upgrade to my coat, which I equipped to free up a space in my inventory – which I thought the previously equipped piece would fill. This didn’t happen and the coat I was wearing to begin with is nowhere to be seen.

This wouldn’t be an issue if it wasn’t for the fact that the piece was a transmuted tier 2 coat

Any help on this issue would be appreciated – I’m not going to get my nice coat back am I…

Normally, your coats should’ve simply switched places. Sounds like a bug. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons ArenaNet cannot restore character data on principle, so if it bugged out, your coat is lost for good. Sorry.
