Q:
What is a beginner friendly ranged class?
Next to warrior, ranger has the most straightforward playstyle. Longbow is in a good place at the moment; it’s pretty easy to play and you do lots of damage. You also get a pet who will help you dps, or tank for you.
That said, ranger is not in the highest demand for dungeons or WvW, though you’ll probably get by without much trouble.
First thing first Ranger is not for dungeons so don’t get yourself strange when you got kicked from any public group ( this can be solved by run duns with your friends/guildmates or use war to do duns instead of ranger )
Ranger are worth to try !! one of the most easiest class to play but if you take this class seriously you will need to train your skill
The most powerful class in solo play extremely high survivability cuz the tank pet like 50k hp, dps pet some are nasty damg and trait help improve your pet even more.
Can be deadly in PvP/WvW/Roaming with sniper build ( longbow range are 1500 ) or conditions build.
Ranger will evolve to Druid in HoT can use a staff !! i just love that idea.
Just gonna correct Eros in that a good ranger is actually pretty good in dungeons thanks to good party buffs (specifically Spotter trait and traited Frost Spirit), the only thing is that people will expect you to go melee after your first longbow burst.
If you want to get a bit more challenging than ranger, you can also consider staff elementalist – very squishy but still fairly simple to play compared to other elementalist builds, and in high demand for both WvW and PvE.
If you’re looking for range, go ranger! I really like my ranger for PvE. A lot of options for dealing with various foes in PvE, you’ve got a pet that, if nothing else, can serve as a distraction to keep enemies from hitting on you right away, and the downed state 3 skill. So easy to come back from downed with your pet working your downed health back up like a beast.
Ranger! They’re great for pve since you get a pet that acts like your meatshield while you snipe away with your long bow. And if you liked warrior you could even go close with a greatsword and go all melee. Only thing that made me not want to play was the fact that I cant get rid of the pet, if that bothers you I wouldn’t go for it.
Please don’t learn the combat mechanics of this game on a Ranger.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances

But if you must please hold off on Bearbow.
Honestly, I prefer the caster classes or thief at range. Dual pistol thief is pretty straightforward, and any staff-caster has absurd range.
That being said, my favourite class overall is Necro, and I think it’s a good starting class. Mechanics are fairly easy to learn, and a well-kitted Necro is a BEAST.
