Im new to guild wars and have played other mmo’s like wow. Im trying to find a profession that I can learn easily and wont have a lot of trouble picking up as i get used to this game. Also does picking certain races help out with some profession.

Warrior is a good place to go.

I was wondering the same thing, i just bought the game and it is currently downloading (omg it is taking forever) and I personally like caster classes not melee. I was looking at elementist, necromancer, and mesmer and they all look my kind of class. I think the mesmer looks the most fun but everyone keeps saying they are hard and weak. What should I do?

Im currently in the same page as you. Im currently downloading and only at 50%. Two people have said warrior so far so I might give that a try. I do prefer caster classes so I was also thinking of trying an elementalist. Not too sure what I wanna pick yet though. Anyone know if warrior or any of the easy classes to learn do high damage because i would prefer to have one that can hold its own.

Warrior. No doubt about it. It’s easy, and gives you a lot of choice for weapons. Level one til you feel comfortable with how the game works, then try something else.

Also, Mesmer is not a straight up casting class. You can melee with it(sort of), shoot with it, or cast with it. Ele is the caster class, and there is a steep learning curve.

Elementalist is probably one of the hardest classes in the game, simply due to the fact there is an overwhelming amount of skills to learn, and when to learn them.

I would recommend Necromancer, as Elementalist is difficult, and Mesmer is getting a bad rep right now. I have not heard anything too bad regarding necromancer, aside from the fact that their summons are in no way shape or form a tank, or have any survivability. My friend plays Necro and he enjoys it alot.

In the end you know what you like best, so go with that, but imo necro is a good starting caster class.

Asura – funny/cool looking animations, city design is compact and easy to navigate
Human – ok looking animations, bigger city layout is still easy to figure out
Norn – like humans but bigger, big city layout
Silvari – ok animations, layout is about the same size as Asura city but it isnt symetrical
Charr – dont know what animations look like, city layout is very confusing

I included city info, but really once you explore it to 100% then you can just get around the city with waypoints. In cities use of waypoints is free, unless you are in an instanced part of the city and you want to go to a waypoint outside of the instance but still in the city (in which case it costs a few copper). I opened up a slot for each profession, but all of them are Asura…some of the animations just make me laugh hehe.

none of them seem to be all that difficult (I only have one toon at 8o though) just pick on your own personality and how you play in pvp.

I am new to GW2 but I used to play GW. All can say is, play whatever you want, regardless of the class, if you really enjoy it, you will become good at it eventually. It’s all about trial and error, there is no “win” formula

Did you not think?
GW is all about pvp and WvW, but a new player wouldn’t know that.
That’s something that’s pretty kitten important

How would people rate mesmer for a nooby because that class looks VERY interesting in the way it can summon copies of itself etc and 80% so close

A tip for you who are starting and still deciding on a class: Create your character, do the tutorial, and after that you can check your character’s sheet, and on the last icon to the left there’ll be an icon to join the PvP Lobby.

There you’ll have your character at 80 with full skills learned, and vendors for all weapons so you can experiment.

To the left of the map (after you do the PvP tutorial) there are training dummies so you can test skills.

I played a few… couple… maybe 4 or 5 hours trying all classes and reading skills, traits, everything, before choosing one to play.
My personal input, though, is that ALL classes are fun.kitten I had a really hard time picking one.

Warrior is a really easy class to pick up, and I have always thought, a hard class to master. It will help you develop.

Guardians are almost exactly the same. They have a ton of variation, but are mostly easy to play as and not be obliterated. Additionally, they are helpful almost everywhere and can beat nearly anything solo.

Rangers are pretty simple, but not as useful as Guardians. They have high-DPS combined with medium survivability, which is boosted as they are a ranged-based class.
