When you kill something sometimes you see on screen “330 xp + 100 xp”

In the chat log it says “You gain 330 experience and 100 exploration bonus.”

What is exploration bonus and how does it sometimes get added?

Isn’t that the one that increases the longer a given enemy has been alive in the world? So killing something that just spawned will be 0 (or close to it), killing something that has been around for a long time will give you a bigger bonus?

Yep that’s right. You notice you will get substantial exploration bonus from killing non-hostile mobs since they are most likely to be ignored.

Oh I thought that had to do with loot value.

Yeah some mobs gave me 800 xp, some 100, some none. Good to know.

Speaking of gaining exp. I realized the +10 exp from kills in food is actually +10%

Some of this has already been explained, but…

The longer a particular enemy has been alive, it will award you a bonus in experience. That’s because if the enemy has been alive in a really long time, granting you a big bonus in experience, then you are likely the first player to come that way in a while (or at least to encounter that particular enemy). Sometimes when you find places like that, you can make a lot of experience just because you explored off the beaten path. So, they are rewarding you for that exploration.
