Guild Wars 2

OK this is my last resort. I have spent hours searching the web, the GW2 website/wiki and other resources (ie: game websites, manuals, guides, reviews, etc). I have asked a hundred players over the last month or more and no one, but no one knows. On my skill bar on the bottom of each skill box sometimes I get a red dot that has a X in it. Sometimes it is on 1 skill and sometimes all of them. I have no idea what it means or what it does. LOL, now it is driving me nuts. What in the frak is that red dot with the X? What does it do or mean if anything? Its not always there. It comes and goes. It happens as far as I can tell on all 6 of my different class characters. So OK I am totally confused at this point. HELP!!!

is it the AoE skills? activating the skill puts a target area for AoE placement.

Sounds like a downed/death penalty icon.

Is it this red crosshair thing? Because that indicates the skill cannot be used underwater.

The red crosshairs visible on your screenshot indicate AoE skills Zenyatoo.

Red circles denote AoE skills.

I’m guessing you’re a thief and can’t afford to use the skill. Since thieves have some sort of action points instead of cooldown (on weapon skills).

EDIT: okay if it happens on different classes, maybe you don’t have the cooldown set to show up either.

A screen shot of the “red dot with an X” would be very helpful here.

Definitely AoE target indicator. pushing the skill rapidly twice in a row will cast it at your character’s position, i think.

Thanks for the help peeps. Yes it is the AOE indicator. Hmm now here’s a idea. They might actually want to explain this SOMEWHERE, in the manual, on their website, on the WIKI, anywhere just so everyone knows. I appreciate everyone’s help in finding out what this was.

I don’t think that an explanation is really needed for something like that. The skill tooltips should say if a skill is AoE already. If a player can’t put 2 and 2 together then that’s just shameful
