I currently have a Mesmer lvl 80 and from experience, this class is just not very efficient for pve. I know I could get a pve build and it’d be better but lets face it, paying the gold for books and retraining is not worth it. So I will have my mesmer be my pvp monster and my __________ as my farmer. I’m thinking Elementalist for the AoE or Warrior, so please any suggestions would be great and helpfult thanks.

Warrior definitely. Extremely powerful and fast melee PBAoE attacks when specced to use a greatsword with better survivability. Throw a longbow or rifle in the second slot fo large DE’s where u do not want to get into melee range, Longbow being better for AoE tagging mobs and rifle for better single target damage.

Elementalists are just harder to use in PvE, because u are rather squishy and have to run a lot, being paired with attacks that take 3 seconds to hit a spot just takes too much effort in timing it. However, they are pretty useful for dungeon runs because you cant really beat a water staff ele with 3 healing skills, excluding his own personal heal.

Rangers are also great if you stick with a tanking pet like a bear. You will hardly have any problems even with elites.

cool thanks for your feedback, necros not that great for pve farming as well? Was hoping somebody would have some input on them and engineers. How theyre experience in pve had been so far..

Ive wanted to make a ranger except there just seems to be so many of them (warriors too) thanks for your input as well

In a group you spam Staff skill #1 to make sure you hit everything humanly possible.
On your own you have great survivability and a greatsword which kills almost everything.

No other class has a mixture which is so complete.

I retired my 80 Elementalist to PVE farming, but it is primarily low level stuff. Can pull 10+ mobs and just AOE them down. I am sure some of the more duarable classes have a better time at high levels.

I have a ranger and I am happy with it so far. Just a quick question: Are you aware that you don’t need a book to retrain? There is a second option at the trainer and its only 2 silver iirc.

Any profession can farm effectively, prior to Orr. But once you get there, joining a zerg with a profession capable of decent AoE is the best way to go. Found that out the hard way with my Ranger, which is why I’m leveling an Elementalist to 80 next. Mass mob tagging is needed to farm stuff in the zerg like fine mats, and to generate gold from loot drops. Single target focused professions (like Ranger), just aren’t as effective as AoE droppers.

I’d also stay away from condition builds in that environment. Your ticks won’t last long, even when they register among the dozens of others vying for a spot on a mobs stack limit, so you won’t be doing much damage compared with those who are more POW/PRE based. That means XP, gold and karma rewards are lower because you’ll have a harder time hitting gold participation frequently.

But hey, until Orr, anything goes.

My current level 80 is a warrior, and he’s VERY good for PvE, especially in Orrian areas. Difference being, he’s a hammer warrior. I’ve specced 20 Strength, 20 Defence and 30 Tactics. Pulling points out of Discipline was a hard decision to make, but with Great Fortitude & Distracting Strikes traited in Strength, Cull the Weak & Merciless Hammer traited in Defence and Inspiring Banners, Lung Capacity (for “Shake it off!”) & Inspiring Battle Standard traited in Tactics, I have fantastic durability, both on my own (especially with Healing Signet alongside the trait the adds regeneration based on adrenaline level) and in groups thanks to the banners.
Exotic Knight’s armour and weapons help too, although I could use some more vitality. Still, it’s fun tanking risen giants on my own, or tanking 3-4 Risen and not seeing my health decrease
Rune-wise, I’m currently using a full set of Superior Runes of Dwayna, which is nice in a group situation, but I’m aiming for Fighter or Dolyak.

The thing to remember with hammer is that every third auto-attack is PBAoE

any class has AoE skills, to farm effectively, just get in a group. Damage threshold that is needed to tag an enemy is reduced and shared between party members

I’m happy with my ranger and his kiting ability. There are only a couple aoes with my set up of Lbow & Sbow. But you could easily go with axe to peg 3 people at a time. Also find pets that have aoe damage like Merellow’s poison cloud. I also use the aoe elite + traps to tag as many mobs as possible.

Oh and piercing arrows ftw.
