What is the best way to get a precursor?
4- Pull out credit card …
buying from the tp is probably the safest bet
Mystic forge is a higher % then it actually being dropped…
so yea.
You either need a fat wallet or a lot of time to farm.
Either way it’s going to cost you an arm and a leg.
Safest bet would be to farm gold up and buy one.
Though I’ve had people tell me to save past the precursor and buy the Legendary directly.
I don’t raid, I barely fractal, and I suck beyond words at PvP and WvW.
But I try, and that’s what counts.
Kill everything that moves and sacrifice baby animals to the Random Number God.
1 is the best and you may be surprised by the inflation on mat that is a lot higher than precusor inflation.
I opted for buying one from the TP. It might work out more expensive than using the Mystic Forge, but it also might be a lot cheaper and I like the certainty.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Just to add to the debate….if an when (and I think the time is drawing near) that Precursor crafting is released (yeah, I could be delusional), keep in mind it will likely be done by releasing an entirely NEW set of Legendary Weapons (I think this is one of the reasons for the delay….they cannot upset the current Precuror/Legendary markets (directly)).
A new set of Legendary Weapons present the following possiblities:
- Weapons may be desirable visually and thus become “the flavor of the month” items. This means whatever is required to obtain the new ones will have huge demand and will likely reduce demand for the old items….including the older Precursors (at least for a limited time). This will likely result in a sharp drop in current Precursor prices on the TP (likely to happen mere moments after any news of the new Legendary Weapons leaks).
- If the new Legendary Weapons are similarly forged, then all Mats associated with making them will also rise in price.
Pure speculation above.

I cant relay on speculation but thanks for the opinions!

buy it. Precursor prices will always go up due to inflation from dugeons. The mystic forge is called the mystic toliet for a reason. The rng is so low that most people will never get a precursor.

relevant to this topic. Doesn’t seem likely precursor crafting would be added outside of a feature patch and it isnt’ going to be in the next one so soonest would April 2015 or maybe even another year from now.

If this is true i will just farm gold and buy the precursor
Farm gold, – dungeons, CS train, world bosses etc – buy precursor.

Well you could just wait for all the announcements for the next feature pack.
None of the upcoming ones look relevant to crafting but there is collecting and trading. Those were somewhat misleading last time anyway.
If you are looking for it to drop, I suggest:
- Keeping fingers crossed at ALL times during play.
- Forbidden Satanic rituals (possible Human Sacrifice involved).
- Holding breath until one drops (see Human Sacrifice above).
- Listening to the entire Album “Hellen Reddy: The Las Vegas Years”
- Goin’ down to the Crossroads…(maybe include Satanic Rituals mentioned above).
- Forgetting they even exist (until one drops).
(There are plenty of others but listing them would likely result in infractions or reader insanity).

Don’t look for one. Then you’ll find 10.
Works in Diablo 3 at least…

If you’re going to buy a precursor, putting in a buy order is worthwhile and will save you a lot. I bought a precursor to make a legendary for my husband and the order was filled in less than 24 hours (and saved me in excess of 100g).
Put in a buy order for whatever you can afford today. Any time your wallet can afford it, drop that offer and create a new one that’s 20-30g higher. Eventually, someone will accept an offer. Everyone I know who uses this technique has gotten their precursor for well below the going rate at the time.
This does a couple of things, mostly psychological (the greatest obstacle to acquiring a precursor now):
- It hides your money, so you don’t accidentally spend it on impulse purchases or the latest cool skin.
- It keeps you from checking the TP every day. You’ll only check when your wallet starts to build up.
- It allows you to notice your progress towards your goal, matching your experience with accumulating T6 mats and lodestones (if needed). Each time you look, you’ll have made a good chunk of progress.
- It keeps you from obsessing over the magnitude of the goal. In perspective, a precursor is never more than 3/5 of the total cost of a legendary (and it’s less than 40% for more than half of them). However, since you never see the total cost of any single “gift,” those always seem less daunting, even though many are worth 100s of gold, too.
The only people who save money by forging for precursors are the 1/10% who are extremely lucky or the small group of people that invest 1,000s of gold on a regular basis; the law of large numbers works for them, but work against those of us unwilling to risk that much.
