What profession makes money ?
Here is the best guide for crafting:
‘Classes’ are called ‘Professions’ in this game so your title kind of threw me off. All ‘Crafters’ can make money depending on acquisition of certain recipes or materials. I’m gonna be honest with you though. You’re probably not going to have much luck with people telling/explaining/exposing/advertising what it is that they craft for profit because that would naturally destroy their market.
Much like people who want flipping/investment tips etc, you’re going to have to do Rome research on your own and learn about supply/demand of certain prices as well as learning/tracking pricing trends of those items. It’s a lively, fluctuating market and takes some investment of personal time to make money this way. Unless you’re naturally gifted at these things, then you’re better off making gold by just playing the game.
*the vast majority of players will spend/invest far more into leveling the crafting disciplines than they’ll ever make back from them

The Trader Profession, it is separate from the Classes that define MMO’s. Traders can be seen near any NPC of the Black Lion variety and possibly for a lengthy amount of time. One would think they were AFK but no, they are actually making money doing one or more of the various activities of the profession.
1. selling loot they acquired in the field.
2. buying items from the trading post and reselling them for a small profit
3. AFK cause they’re looking at gw2spidy and doing math
4. buying items from the trading post that someone didn’t sell properly in the first place, ripping the super profitable rune/sigil off it and selling the rune/sigil and materials they just got from salvaging.
5. making underhanded buy orders to catch unaware sellers off guard and making a much larger profit when they then sell it back for higher prices
OH, you were talking about crafting professions, well you’re not going to make money from them, it’s just a novelty that Anet threw into the game to appease those who like to grind out useless things like that. Since we aren’t allowed to actually sell the high end stuff we can craft, crafting is pointless. The only way that you are ever going to make money in this game that is blessed by Anet is through trading post manipulation. There are very very few things that you can craft that will actually net you a profit unless you really like to grind that out for the meager earnings and accumulate over time, you can make much more than that just doing world boss runs or WvW grind zone Edge of the Mists.
Sorry, but Crafting is only good for some skin unlocks that can’t be attained by killing an enemy or acquired by karma.
Agree… crafting is not used to make money in this game.
Maybe Deldrimor Ingot and Bolt of Damask.
Otherwise… don’t waste your time.
Actually, there are plenty of recipes that can get yo money. You just have to search and find them. Usually you only make about 1-5s per item crafted, but you can craft in bulk. Just be sure not to post all at once or you’ll shift the market and lose profit.
Most of these recipes will be in Cooking, although you will find some armors and weapons that go for good amounts of money (as do ascended materials).
It is unlikely you can sell finished products and make money via crafting.
Components, Insignia or Inscriptions are another story……

Thanks all for your reply kinda sad that it does not help much in money making, wasted alot of money getting leather working to high level.
This took a bit of motivation for me to play the game ~ as you would think that crafting is one way to make money..
Thank all again… i will see how to make money i guess
Yes you make the most money by getting you character to 80, then jumping in on either the world boss train or the Frostgorge Sound train of champ killing. You salvage everything and sell off the materials you pick up. Or you go dungeon running and do the same. It’s a very deconstructed sort of way of making gold. This also gets you the essences of luck which increase your magic find.
Note – a good tip is, salvage all whites and blues you find. Greens, some of them are worth more on the Trader’s Post than others (usually the rule of thumb is if it sells for more than 3 silvers put it up on the TP, if not salvage it). Yellows you want to either use the yellow salvage kits the NPCs sell or if you have them, the Black Lion ones you occasionally get as rewards but I save mine for exotics that I happen to find and don’t want to sell off.
Good luck!

Bullkitten. It is possible to make money from every Crafting Discipline.
When I leveled my Armorsmithing it cost me 35G to get it to 500. I sold items back that I had created and banked 140G when done.
Same with Cooking. I can make some mad cash selling certain high end foods. You NEVER use food or utility consumables?
Don’t just jump on your soapbox and tell new players that it is a garbage system and waste of time/money. We NEED new players to keep this game alive. Those new players need to be encouraged to play, not discouraged away from one of the main game features.
Crafting IS important to the game world. Circle of Life and all that.

While I applaud your defense of crafting to make money, I think if you factored in the cost of materials you already HAD or collected during the process, your numbers would not “appear” to be so profitable. Many crafters (myself included) often discount the opportunity cost of on-hand materials as “free” when in fact, they cost you time to collect and were lost income when they were not SOLD as raw materials or intermediate components.
Before boasting about profits from crafting the actual cost should be properly calculated Just because you spent 35g does not mean you the crafting ’cost" you 35g.
