What server to join?
Tarnished Coast, Stormbluff Isle, Jade Quarry. Those seem to be the top servers. It may take you awhile to get in one of them, but you can continue trying periodically. The server you are on makes a huge difference in terms of quality of life issues like having other players around for Dynamic Event’s. Keep trying and you will eventually be rewarded.
Edit: BTW, server transfers are still free, so if you can’t get in a high pop server join one you can and keep trying for a high pop server.

All those servers are full. Is it really woth it to join such a populated server? Is their wait times to join a full server after one has created a character on one? Is lag going to be a problem?
Interesting. It says if you wish to change your home world location you will need to PURCHASE a world transfer. This does not sound like its free to me. Or is this a mistake in the game’s part?
I have changed my home world twice with no fee. Anet originally planned to charge for server transfers but they have yet to roll that out. In game it shows that a fee of 0 gems will be charged.
Tarnished Coast is the furry server, so if you like that, join it, if you can.
Northern Shiverpeaks. Great community.
What the hell is a furry server? Anyways I was about to choose Shiverpeaks ironically enough. I guess I’ll continue with that one.
If you enjoy WvW style pvp/gameplay – you’ll probably be severely disappointed right now with every realm being pretty lackluster to Sea of Sorrows, Stormbluff Isle, and Jade Quarry.
A lot of guilds transferred off the other servers and onto those, especially within the last month or so with migration having been heavy to Sea of Sorrows.
I see. I don’t know anything about this game. I played the first one for a while but this one seems nothing like it as its completely different. I can always transfer later anyways. I just mainly want to get started.
Been on Tarnished Coast since day 1, never felt like I should transfer. Take that as you will.
If you want to try a full one but can’t seem to quite join yet, just join some other server. Periodically try to transfer to the server you really want to join (It’s free) until you’re successful.
As a tip, the best time to try and attempt a server transfer generally seems to be Monday/Tuesdays around 12-2 EST. Most “Full” servers tend to roll over to “High” during that time of day.
Of course for a lot of high school / college students & teachers this trend is probably off with the winter break.
I have been on Henge of Denravi since the beta. It is now a smaller community than those in the top tier of WvW, but the people here are amazing and very open/helpful to new players.
Currently, you should find an amazing experience on any server you choose. I would pick one that isnt full, as that will make it easier to play with friends (both new and old who join the game) and, if you pick a server like Henge, I know the players will make you feel at home.
Additionally, we need people to spread out more and stop trying to cram into the top 5-6 servers. It isnt good for the competitive landscape in WvW and could potentially harm the future of the game. I know from a personal perspective, this may not seem as important, but think of it this way – on a growing server, you can be a more integral part of the community. I know we would welcome you on Henge.
Nothern Shivers Peak is pretty good. I switched there recently after joining the Angry Army guild.
Northern Shiverpeaks Night Crew
Os Guild
Tarnished Coast is what I picked because it was the unofficial RP server, but you don’t need to RP. I picked it because I knew RP servers tend to have nicer people. I did end up RPing a few times. But I’m not so good at RP. Sometimes I like to just watch others RP, it helps make the world feel a bit more alive. There will be bad apples on any server, but I have met more nice people.
The server is hard to get into, we have guild members that have been waiting to move over.
