What should I be doing around Level 65?
I’m the wrong person to answer because I love the fact I can play anywhere I’ve been with my character, doing whatever I want. I love the fact I don’t have to ask “what I should be playing”.
Exploring and clearing zones is a good use of your time. You two can go and try out other aspects of the game like WvW. Duos can take out supply camps on their own as well as supply convoys and road sentries. Just don’t get upset if a crowd from one of the other two worlds pop up and clean your clock. It’s all part of the experience. Join up with a few dozen from your world to take down larger structures like towers and keeps or join the defense of the one you are in.
Do what’s fun for you two. It’s a game not a job.
RIP City of Heroes
Great response and glad to know I’m not doing anything ‘wrong’. You could say then that we are enjoying the freedom of doing whatever
You can play the entire game, including level 80, in blue gear. That doesn’t mean you should, obviously, but it also means that you don’t need to constantly upgrade your gear with the best possible stats.
Up to level 80, you’ll be fine if you upgrade all your gear to Masterwork every 10 levels or so. You can add an occasional yellow that you find, but I wouldn’t buy any on TP.
At level 80, ignore yellows and slowly make a suit of exotics with the stats you prefer. Also pay attention to what Ascended items you can buy (see how many Laurels and Guild Commendations you have), and get them instead of exotics. Then slowly work towards crafting other Ascended items.
What do you enjoy doing in an RPG game? Running dungeons? PvP? Roleplaying?
If you are bored with farming champions (not surprising), you can run some dungeons. There are four of them available by the time you reach level 65. If you need an alrernative to beating up NPCs, you can do a few matches in sPVP arenas, you don’t need to be level 80 to participate. If you prefer large-scale battles, you can jump into any of the WvW areas, where you also don’t need to be level 80.
If you prefer to continue roleplaying and PvE, you can just explore the world. There are many beautiful areas, and many interesting events that are overlooked by the train farmers.
As stated previously, you can continue throughout the game with blues and masterworks. This can later be changed at level 80 to rares, exotics and eventually ascended when it comes out.
At 65 there are many things to do. You can run 4 different dungeons, go to WvW, craft stuff or just play like you are at the moment.
If you want to level quickly to 80, then I suggest crafting or head to World vs World. You can make the 60-80 jump in a day just from WvW. Crafting is a few quick levels at that stage, because you have collected a sum of crafting materials.
There are many things to do at that level, just play how you want.
Thanks for the response.
I actually came from EQ2 where one of my most favourite experiences was mentoring lower level players, running dungeons with a group and occasionally doing some PvP both open world and instanced. Running a dungeon would be my go-to social experience normally, however I am quite interested in trying the WvW stuff – I wonder if I can persuade my partner in to trying it too! She came from WOW and enjoyed the PvP arenas there.

If you like any help in game, let me know! ^-^
I’d be happy to help you and your partner learn everything there is to know about the game. PvP or PvE related.

As a couple other people mentioned, you don’t really need to worry about kitting out in full exotic (or better) gear until level 80. I’ve done the upgrade to exotic for a couple of my characters around level 65, and it didn’t make that much of a difference over yellows or greens as far as open-world PvE went.
As far as what zones to play in…really, anything at or below your current level will work! There’s no real “end-game” until you get at a high enough level to do Orr or Frostgorge (level 75-80). Actually, as you head for the Orr zones (starting with Straits of Devastation) you will notice that the usual renown hearts will start to disappear and instead you will have a lot more dynamic events to do, and many of these (especially in Orr proper) can be challenging. More dungeons will also open up as you level further. You can do WvW and PvP right now if you want. But there isn’t really anything that you “have” to do right now.
So I recommend just keep doing what you enjoy. Work on your map completion, and perhaps work on some maps in areas you haven’t explored yet (for example, if you’ve been mainly running around Kryta, try doing some of the Maguuma Jungle or Ascalon zones). If a world boss is up in your current zone, head over and try helping out. Try finding and running some jumping puzzles. Do some crafting if you want. The Queensdale champ train is mostly run by people hoping for some rare weapon skins to drop, from what I understand, but it’s not mandatory by any means.
Firstly you can keep on doing anything you enjoy doing really…
But the easiest/cheapest way to get full exotics is run dungeons for the tokens, buy exotic gear with tokens. You will want to visit Lions Arch and inspect the dungeon vendors to choose what stats you want and what look you want. Then you will know what dungeons to run.
Also, in WvW at 80 you can buy a full set of rares straight away for just karma at 80th level. If you do a lot of WvW, you will collect badges of honour, which along with small amounts of gold you can use to buy exotics.
A few other things to try out, champion farming Frostforge or going down to Orr or searching out the bosses which have just received a makeover and start running them daily. For example Maw, Fire Elemental, Hydra etc….
There is so much to do, and it really depends on what brings you the most enjoyment.
*Doing map completion. Redoing quests/events for fun/lore.
*Running all the dungeons. Rerunning dungeons for tokens/gold.
*Doing PvP.
*Doing WvW.
*Running champ farms. Good loot, zerg focused.
*Doing the world boss circuit. Good rewards, large crowds, super sized encounters.
*Leveling up an ALT.
*Doing resource gathering. Gather up wood/ore/plants for crafting or selling.
*Leveling up all crafts. Eight crafts, each one 0-400 will give you 7 levels. Most spread out the crafts over several alts because of this.
*Gearing out your toons. Save up dungeon tokens for extoic armor/weapons, use karma from events to purchase dungeon karma armor, or WvW BOH for extoics. Can also craft exotics.
*Work towards newly introduced ascended weapons.
*Do temple runs. Open up the various temples and get some good loot while doing so.
*Get up with a guild and join them. Run guild missions, dungeons, and other content with like minded people. My guild does guild missions twice a week, PVP once a week, WvW once a week, Dungeons once, and we now have a farming night. Great fun for all.
*Start working towards a legendary. This will be a long term goal and slowly working towards one will give you something to achieve.
*Go through and do all the jumping puzzles.
*Get all the open world achievements. Mini-dungeons. World boss achievements. Lots of little achievements to get to keep you focused.
If you are interested in WvW, I would recommend it as a method of levelling.
Low level characters are up-levelled to 80 in WvW and so is their gear BUT your gear needs to be reasonable to begin with.
Fret not. In the WvW borderland zones you will find karma vendors who will sell you weapons and armour with the best stats for playing WvW at your current level (buy a new set every 6 levels)
Since the gear is bought for karma and WvW makes you a ton of karma anyway, this is a very cheap way to get top-notch gear for both WvW and PvE.
