My wife and I are loving the game so I’m going to buy us both some gems. What is the best thing to get out of the store? We are both in the 40s with a main and will be playing alts like crazy. I’m thinking bank tabs for myself. Are keys worth it? We both have a bunch of locked chests. What was the first thing you ever bought with gems? Looking back, would you say it was worth it?
keys to me are not worth it. Starting out since you both like alts, character slots and bank slots are the first things I would buy. After you have played a bit create a private guild and build banking space there that can be shared between accounts. Then with in game gold buy more gems for fluff.
Well keys are unpredictable as it is unknown what is in them. Whoever, you always get something, usually some temporary boosts. If you are not willing to take a chance then I would suggest not buying RNG chest especially at your level because the dropped items are usually high level materials and skins and such are Extremely rare. Also that is a very touchy subject for many here and I’m sure you will have someone chiming in soon. I buy a few form time to time just because I like to take a chance but so far have gotten the same items every time. I’m not complaining though and I sold them on the TP.
You can get some skins that look pretty cool. Just make sure to not do like me and buy a skin for the wrong armor type. I wasn’t paying attention and bought one for light armor when I wear medium.
If you like other perk items, a lot of people like mini pets that follow them around. They offer no stat boost and don’t fight. The thing I don’t like about them is that when you change zones you have to reactivate them again and I often forget.
I agree with the above, the first thing I bought was bank slots and bag slots. Bag slots are handy of you are grinding.
Don’t buy keys. Nothing inside is worth the money and the chance for rare drops is incredibly low. The first thing I bought with gems was the Molten mining pick. It was worth it for the savings in bag space and the looks. Bank tabs and bag slots are always a good buy. I’m waiting for them to go on sale and also any other unlimited gathering tools that might come out later. Fine transmutation stones are good too if you like to customize your looks with the right stats.
Character slots (for your alts),
bank tabs (more space is almost always good),
and if you have a ‘dedicated’ main (or a dedicated farmer) possible the additional bag slots on it.

I also got the molten mining pick (not having to buy mining picks all the time, woohoo!) but thats gone now I believe. If they come out with a similar unlimited gathering tools, id look at those too. Just handy to not have to keep buying them and/or carry spares on me.

I’ll agree that a lot of the stuff is over priced. But things like character slots and bank tabs are the same price as the previous game and I think it’s a fair price for those.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. We have setup a guild (first game we have both liked that let us make a two person guild) and I’m building the first bank tab there right now. I’m not really wanting to start a debate on the prices of the stuff in the store, just wanting peoples opinions from what they have bought and if they felt like the value was there. I had not planned on spending any money beyond buying the box, but the game is so great and I want to support it to make it better!

My husband and I share a similar view. We like to find games we can play together and if we enjoy it, we show our support by providing some ‘extra funding’ through purchases. Depending on what’s available.

My advice- avoid the RNG items. No chests, no dye packs, no supply crates or whatever.
There are far too many things to use gems on that are useful and a flat rate. I always start with bag slots, then bank slots, then character slots. After that, some flat rate cosmetic items are a huge plus, like the new quiver. Finally, as I level up alts I’ll have to redo some of those bag purchases and also buy some more transmute stones if I have a look I want to go for that isn’t heritage armor.
Spending gems on RNG in this game is VERY unrewarding, and as a player to another player I cannot suggest strongly enough to avoid it. Especially with so many flat rate things you can buy.
