Hey guys returning player here.

Could someone please clarify what the most efficient thing to do with loot is? What I currently do is I salvage all greens/blues/whites with basic salvage kits, and I auction all yellows and exotics. I have an inkling though that this might not be most efficient.

Should I perhaps vendor the blues and greens? or salvage the rares/exotics? If so what salvage kits are most efficient? I have probably around 20 black lion salvage kits accumulated from getting free stuff over the years, so those are an option for salvaging exotics too, for a while at least.

I salvage everything when I’m on a character that’s under level 70 (unless I happen to get a champ bag exotic, in which case I usually sell it or salvage for the sigil and sell). On 80s, I salvage leather and cloth blues and greens and sell all others. I sell rare staves and greatswords if they’re going for more than 70 silver. Otherwise, I salvage all rares for globs of ectoplasm. As for exotics, I check the rune or sigil inside of them and the going price for the whole weapon vs. for the rune/sigil. If the piece of gear goes for a good amount, I just sell it as is. If the sigil sells for more than the gear piece, then I salvage it for the rune, and then I sell the rune and any ectos.

As for salvage kits: I ONLY use Black Lion Salvage Kits on exotics. That is the only kit that will guarantee you get the rune/sigil back, and it also gives you a better shot at getting globs of ectoplasm back. For rares, I use either Mystic Salvage Kits (same as Master kits) or Silver Fed Salvage-O-Matic. Don’t use the masterwork, fine, or basic kits if you want a good shot at getting ectos back. For greens/blues, basic or Copper Fed Salvage-O-Matic will be fine.

I look to see what the piece is selling for on the TP usually before salvage. A lot of times even white will be selling for many times the vendor price. If it is not at least triple the vendor price then I will either save it for the mystic toilet or salvage it. That’s for white, blue and greens. For yellow and exotic I will see if it’s better than what I have and then maybe use it or save it for the mystic toilet or salvage, all depends on how I feel or how many I have in my bags.

What I do is:

whites/greens/blues: basic salvage kit

yellows: mystic salvage kit (except swords, greatswords, staves, and hammers which I throw into the mystic toilet once I have 4 of one kind)

exotics: black lion salvage kit (after checking TP prices)

Generally speaking:

White = Salvage
Blue = Salvage
Green = Salvage
Yellow = Check price on TP. If greater than Ectoplasm price +20% list for sale otherwise Salvage with Master/Mystic kit for Ectoplasm. I will sometimes retain weapons for Mystic Forging if I don’t need Ectoplasm.
Orange = Check Rune/Sigil price on TP. If nearly equal to price of selling item on TP, salvage with Black Lion Kit and sell Rune/Sigil. If less than selling price of item but item sells for more than 3g, sell item. If item sells for less than 3g, salvage if armor or throw in Mystic Forge if weapon.

As for myself, because I usually don’t want to spend unreasonable amounts of time sorting my inventory:

- exotics: TP unless you want dark matter. If you want dark matter, black lion salvage everything that sells for less than 70s on TP, TP the rest
- rares: master kit salvage
- everything else: crap salvage

Don’t vendor, mats will be worth more than vendor in 99% of the cases. Don’t TP rares, few of them are actually worth the 0.875 ecto + mats + rune you’ll get. The only question is TP or salvage green. TP might reward you with a few more copper. I don’t belive it is worth even the time to check on TP.

Salvage anything green or lower, check TP on rares, sell if they’re going for more than the value of a single ecto (was ~52 silver last I checked) and salvage if not (or sell if not feeling lucky about salvage). Exotics are generally the same as rares The exception is for ones that are hella expensive because of runes or sigils. Dont just sell the item off as is. CHECK THE UPGRADE PRICE first. If the gear is selling for 9g, the upgrade might be selling for 10-11g. You gain more profit by salvaging with a BLSK and selling the upgrade. Otherwise you may end up selling to people like me who buy exotics, salvage the upgrades and then make profit off selling the upgrade

I’m lazy, so I vendor all my greens and blues, salvage yellows, and TP exotics. I MF the sigils/runes from the yellows with my pocket MF, and sell any valuable superiors I get.

It will empty your bags quickly, but it is not as efficient for money as salvaging all the greens and blues.
