I’ll just leave this here for those who haven’t read it.

Call it grind, call it what you wan’t, it is still proof of the diverse amount of content already in this game. Crying about endgame, when the game released about a month ago… I’m sad, having to post this, the gamer community being what it is.

Just my 50öre.

“Endgame” is MMO-speak for “I want to sit on my awesome mount and show off my awesome armor while waiting for the raid to start.”

The company behind this game isn’t chasing your $15 a month subscription. They don’t need to keep you entertained until the next expansion, and don’t need to hand you everything on a silver platter. The game itself is the endgame, as long as you want to explore the world there will be new things to discover, before you can find everything or achieve everything they’ll have an expansion ready that adds even more stuff to do.

But the trick is that you have to look for it. Grinding to max level ASAP and saying “gimme more” isn’t playing the game. The process of developing your character begins at level 1, not 80. Enjoy the ride.

GW2 isn’t about the ‘endgame’, it’s about the journey there. This is just my opinion, but what I’ve seen so far and read on the forums (now as well as the updates given us during development), that seems to be the concensus (sp).

So, if you’re looking for flashy mounts, wrong game, we don’t have any mounts
If you’re looking for stuff do to, open your Hero’s panel, open the Achievements tab, and there’s still a ton of stuff to be accomplished. Not all involves ‘grinding’.

Me personally, I like the way this game is set up because it’s not about the ‘endgame’ but about the journey there. I know there are others out there that feel the same way.

There is a segment of the MMO population that is tired of playing WoW… but still wants to play WoW. Perhaps because they don’t know how to play anything else.

Sadly, I think this is me. Sorry.

I would tell them that there is no ‘endgame’, there is an ‘all-the-time-game’, because the game is designed to be fun and challenge from level 1 on.
However if they were asking, specifically, what to do once level progression is done with, I would tell them the truth: exactly the same things you do in any other MMO.

  • Grind difficult dungeons and events for prestige expressed in fancy gear.
  • PvP for the challenge of fighting other players.
  • Make an alt.

This is virtually no different than in WoW or Rift or whatever else people are used to these days. The difference is that you can do all these things just as validly before you reach max level.

If anyone needs help with #26 (“Find a vial of black dye and give it to a friend”) then I’ll happily take it off your hands.

Personal experience of my ‘version’ of end-game.

Once you hit level 80, face it.. You aren’t itching to roll a brand new alt unless you are some insane over-alt achiever(TM!) It’s been a bit of a grind — now what?

Dungeons
After completing the story modes in the majority of the dungeons (Arrah for some reason still bugs out on us in the most random places.. maybe I’m doing something wrong?) I visited Lions Arch and spoke with the dungeon token armor vendors. I previewed all of their wares and started calculating the token cost for the armor skins that looked groovy and the various ‘special’ runes you can obtain.

After searching I found myself looking very sexy in a flaming chest piece I could change in with tokens farmed in the citadel of flame — so I did the explorable CoF until I got the armor that shot animated fire out of my norn chest.

I’m sure there are other groovy, sexy things you can obtain with tokens from other dungeons as well.

WvW

Despite what you think, this is more RTS/PvE then it is PvP. If you are lucky enough to have a decent size guild, hell 5-10 players even, queue up for WvW (like an hour or two before you actually are scheduled to play..queues are a bit ridiculous at times) buy some siege equipment, go raid some suppy camps then have organized guild attacks on various towers/keeps/supply camps, sure you wont be taking over a castle or anything but there are plenty of fun things to do inside WvW with a social group of friends besides mindlessly contributing to the zerg.

Black Lion Trading Company

Believe it or not, this acts as an end game for me. Always has in many games, playing the market. Finding out what is profitable, how to obtain it and hopefully get rich!

I’m at work so I’ll cut it short.. but in sense that is how I spend my time, end-game.

To each their own of course.

Leveling up I enjoyed myself. Once I hit 78 and took a look at the gear on the market. I didn’t see the stats I wanted which was disappointing. Mainly was looking for +vit + toughness gear.

I joined wvw, although I don’t enjoy zerg pvp I like something on a more personal level like 1v1. I spent a few hours in there this morning, capturing stuff and killing people. The only reason I was in there was the gear vendors had the desire stats I was looking for. After said two hours I had zero tokens that’s needed to purchase said gear.
Found a couple pieces of gear via karma vendor. Spent a few hours running around hoping to luck out and reach an event in time. The majority of my time was searching, looking, hoping not actually working towards anything. In the end I made like 2k karma after a few hours. Each piece, from memory ran like 41k karma. I spent 0 Karma leveling up and only had 40k end game >.>

The farming route would be the most appealing route, for me at least since I can constantly work rather than run around and receive no rewards, little rewards or bet on luck. But no gear to speak of that I’ve found in the last 4 days checking the market frequently. Perhaps that’s subject to change as more crafting stuff is discovered.
Looking at the big picture however, even if I found an efficient reasonable, I stress reasonable, way to grind some gear. In the end what would it matter? What wealth does it really have? There is currently really not incentive to grind for gear because it’s not required with no end game content with gear checks in place. While I think that’s awesome I really do, what value does level have or gear at any point in the game? Outside being high enough to see instance content, really none.

At the present with the choices available there’s really no reason to continue that I’ve discovered, yet. I’m still open minding and doing research I haven’t crafted much perhaps I can do it via that route. But excluding that unexplored possibility there’s not many direction on things to do. Sure you can roll another character and try something new, take a few different routes in terms of zones to see a little different content. Once that’s explored in the end you’re in the exact same spot with, what to do?

Just so you don’t take me out of context here, I do enjoy this game there’s still a lot to be uncovered yet. I’m just communicating what I’ve seen so far and experienced, not hating on the game.

In terms of that artical I feel it has value. It wasn’t a troll but a thought out concern communicated with some truth.

That’s exactly what I meant when I said people are still trying to play WoW when this is a very different game. Have you read up on the legendary items that you can craft via the Mystic Forge? If you’re interested in the top level gear then this would be something to work towards.

Do you craft your own gear? I haven’t reached the end of the game, in fact I can’t even decide on which race/class combo I like best, so I don’t know what kind of gear you can craft at skill 400. But from the beginning you can create things that add stats to crafted gear and use them to “discover” new recipes via gear components. Helm cap + helm lining + Vitality buff = Vitality Helm. So you should be able to craft some armor like that and use transmutes to give it whatever appearance you want.

endgame ? What meaning dies it have in gw2? I am always occupied with things to do in the game, running around trying to fill up all the "hearts " on the world map, going in to w3 trying to gank invaders and farming materials and items for funds to do repair when I get ganked. Lol
Seriously in many other mmo, endgame means lowbies in group of 10 will run if they see you comming in battle field like w3 . But, it is the other way round in Gw2. Totally love this game.
