What to use Necro for in dungeons?
try reading this: http://dulfy.net/2014/06/30/gw2-necromancer-pve-guide-by-spoj/
usually necro is the least desired class in pugs (picky, picky,… :/)
The sad thing about Necromancer is that it does nothing;
It can’t buff up the groups damage through Banners, Fury or Might like an Warrior and Elementalist can. The Vulnerability they apply is (way) better done by Elementalist Glyph of Storms in Air or even an Engineer.
It has very little, if any ways, to help the team survive either. They’ve got Wells for Blind/Condition removal, but the cooldown is rather high, where-as a Thief can provide blinds way more regular, stack perma weakness along with it and use that same skill the Stealth Groups and the Condition Removal can be done a lot more frequent by a Mesmer or a Guardian whilst they also provide Stability, Reflects, Portal/Boon Removal (Mesmer) or Aegis/Protection (Guardian)
Leaving them with nothing but their personal dps, which isn’t too shabby, but it’s not an Elementalist or a Thief’s dps either.
If you love Necromancer how-ever, read Spoj’s guide and just have fun with it, hopefully they’ll be more team-orientated in the future.
Necromancer have good weakness uptime, condi management, and above average burst damage. They also have decent access to self-buff in pugs. Apart from that, it’s a selfish class that doesn’t bring much to the table compared to top tier classes. Focus on dps, as that’s the thing you’re doing best anyway.
Every account comes with 4 other character slots to solve (ok, work-around) this problem with….
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
The best thing a ‘Dungeon Necro’ can do is stand outside the dungeon portal and wish others good luck.. The can also be used at the dungeon portal to red bad pugs that wipe and the get kicked/I’ve up.
Necro in PvP/WvW is nasy though.
Thanks for the responses everyone and the link to the guide. My necro is used mainly for pvp / wvw i was just hoping i could take him to pve dungeons as well >.<
Are rangers useful in dungeons at all? Last time i played they were not that great so if thats still the case ill just make a new character for pve solely
They are not part of most speedruns ( although we did use some after the RF buff in iV; it was pretty good, they are sadly outdated now), but for casual runs, they are fine. Rangers share a similar role with the warrior ( unique party buffing via spotter and frost spirit, but warriors just do it better. Rangers have more personal dps, and a really high burst to compensate, along with your usual niche tricks. Pugs are just starting to evolve from the 4 warriors 1 mesmer mentality, meaning you’ll probably get kicked on sight from some groups for being a ranger. IF you’re not into mix maxing, taking a ranger instead of a third/ second ele is fine, and it’s also a really fun class to play.
tl;dr: they aren’t the most wanted, but at least people acknowledge their existence, unlike necros who simply don’t exist.
I don’t think it matters. Most pug is slower than the solo dungeon world record.
I doubt necro’s bad dps have that much to do with slow dungeon run.
That being said, obviously don’t bring necro to speed run. Since 2-3 slots is filled with ele.
^ this. It really depends on the pug you pick :P e.g.: I don’t mind necros, but then I don’t do speed runs and never advertise special requirements in LFG (5k AP, red hair only, etc…).
