I know in some games you join a guild as soon as you start playing and in other games you have to reach a certain level before any will accept you. I can’t seem to find info on this. So can someone please advise at what level it’s best to look for a guild to join? Ta

Any level is fine for the most part, you just have to look into the guild requirements which varies. If you take a look at the guild recruiting forums, you will have a huge selection to choose from and most of them will say if they have any hard requirements but most accept anybody willing to give them a shot. I tend to avoid application-based ones because I’m lazy but shoot recruiters an in-game mail or PM them and you should have some quick replies. GL

In my opinion, you should join when you feel you are ready to.
There are a bunch of guilds recruiting, just check the Guild Recruitment thread here on the forum and see if any appear to be a good fit for you.

IMO you get more out of joining a guild early than waiting.

But I also think it’s important to wait until you have some idea of what you want from a guild before you go looking for one.

  • Do you want to do PvE? PvP? WvW?
  • Do you want a newbie friendly guild that will help you through things you haven’t done before but won’t do more hardcore content or things like speedruns, or do you want a guild that might be less sympathetic while you’re learning but will push you to be better and do more?
  • Are you willing to represent 100% of the time? Do you care if other guild members are not representing (and you therefore can’t talk to them in guild chat)?
  • Do you want regular guild missions or other events, or would you rather be able to do things as and when enough people are online?

These are just examples, what you want from a guild might be very different but I definitely think it’s worth thinking about and taking the time to find a guild you really like instead of just jumping into whichever one comes along first.

As the others have said, it really depends on you and what your needs are. Every guild is different in many ways. Their rules, playstyle (PvE, PvP, PvX, RP, etc), size, community, etc. It is worth taking the time to scope out the posts in the guild recruiting section on these boards and see if any sound right for you.

Consider what Danicat posted as well. Those are very good things to ask yourself to help you narrow down your search. If you see something that sounds promising, speak with the leaders and/or officer(s) to get a better feel for what they offer.

Good luck in your search for a place to call home. It might take some time to find the right one, but it will be worth it in the end.

Firstly thank you to everyone that replied
Danikat: very good points to raise and I think I can answer those:
1* Pve mostly at least to start but would love to learn wvw too. Pvp doesn’t grab me.
2* I don’t like hardcore or elite. I’d hope for friendly and relaxed atmosphere?
3* Represent? what’s that? Like a uniform or what? We can’t chat if not wearing it? Odd idea!
4* Regular or ad lib is harder, why not a bit of both? If things are timed to suit it would be great to join in once I’m high enough level. It would also be great to group for normal Pve stuff sometimes. Playing with others can be fun but some of the time solo is good too.

So can anyone please answer what point 3* , represent, is please? And why it would prevent chatting? Ta

You can be in multiple guilds at the same time, but you can only have one of them active. That means representing.

Some guilds want you to represent them all the time, others are more relaxed.

This feature was implemented so that people could be in different guilds with their different friends, or for specific PvP or crafting bonuses etc.

Oh sorry yeah, I forgot that wouldn’t be clear to new players.

Like AntiGW said you can be in up to 5 guilds at once in this game, but you can only represent one at a time. When you’re representing that guilds tag will show above your character and if you’re wearing any guild armor or weapons that guilds logo will show on it. But more importantly any influence you earn will go to that guild, their guild bank is accessible to you and their conversations will show in the guild chat channel. When you’re not representing a guild you can’t see or join in the guild chat and you won’t earn influence for them.

Some guilds (usually smaller PvX guilds in my experience) require members to represent all of the time, or almost all the time, whereas others only require you to represent while doing specific activities (for example a PvP tournament guild might only require representation during PvP matches) or they might not care either way.

IMO which is best for players really depends on what you want from the guild. If you only want to be in one guild you’re probably better off with one that requires 100% representation because it means everyone who is online will be in guild chat. But if you want to be in multiple guilds that won’t work, you’ll need to represent each of them at different times so you’ll need to make sure all your guilds are aware of and ok with that.

Depends on your play style. If you’re thinking about running dungeons as your main occupation or WvW, you’re better off waiting till you’re higher level. If you’re looking to mess around in the open world with a casual PvE guild, then you’re better off joining at a lower level.

For SPvP it doesn’t matter since everyone is bumped to 80th level to SPvP.
