More like 30%, lol.

You cant really “farm” essences, other than salvaging globs. And for that you need alot of gold. At 200%, 200 gold worth of ectos is a couple of percent. Dont have hundreds of gold in the bank? Yeah. That’s the proper time to stop. Even if we’re taking into account selling the dust, its a precursor worth of gold you need to gain like 20% MF.

I don’t farm at all.
I have been in the lucky possition that I have 9 character slots. One is for keyfarming. the others are permanent slots. At the time that magic find was released I only had 3 characters at level 80. I now got 7 at level 80, and the 8th is getting close. Only the not level 80 blues and greens I get are salvaged for luck. The result is that I’m getting close to be above 100 MF.

Normally a newly created account that level to 80 earns about 15 gold. Cause it is only blues and greens I salvaged I estimate I would loss bout 7-8 gold cause off this tact per character I leveled. But, thanks to ascended gear, the not top tier mats like linnen, have been increased, a lot, and my tactic just delivers that a lot, making my method actually profitable instead of costing money.

The money-luck ratio is very important. You always have to ask yourself. How profitable a certain percentage off luck will be and how much it cost to get that amount of luck. For example, say you max to 300% MF, but it has cost you 15k gold in salvaged (wasted materials). Lets say that the amount of profit you get from that extra magic find is 25% (you get a higher chance on getting rarer materials, but that chance is allready low, so the change still is low if compared to not rare items). This means you need to earn 60k gold before you start making profit.

So the fact that I will be at 100% MF (through luck) without making any investment, means that I can start making profit strait away.

I’ve never bothered farming MF.

My system is simply to check the Trading Post and sell anything that goes for more than the merchant price (after taxes), then salvage everything else because generally the materials are more valuable and/or useful to me than the little bit of money I’d get.

I’m up to 70% so far, not a lot compared to some people but I’m in no hurry to max it out. Before the change I never used MF unless I had a booster or food to get rid of because it wasn’t worth losing other stats for, so anything is an improvement to me, and this way it’s one less thing to think about.

I’m at 138% at the moment and I must say I don’t notice much difference, when I’m in a group of friends we have a range for 30%-138% MF and the amount of money we make from drops is equal, making me assume the increase is really small. Our rare/exotic magnet is ironicly our 30% MF buddy.

I’d never ‘farm’ MF in the form of salvaging ecto/buying greens/blues for salvage/etc. especially after 100%, I find it a waste for a few percentage. I do how-ever salvage almost every blue/green (except some trinkets/leather items) because from my experience the market balances extremely quickly, the items are close to the price their material sell for (the item obviously is slightly more expensive in almost every case) and it’s quicker to me to salvage than to open the TP all the time (especially when doing dungeons/fractals all day long.) I make exceptions whilst leveling since some items (power/percision trinkets for example) sell way above their material price.

But it’s so personal. Some people enjoy a carrot to chase after, or even just to feel you have some control over your luck (I know I do) or simply have a lot of money to waste. If someone has done the math one cost/efficiency I’ll be absolutely astonished due to how many factors are included.

I have 112% base luck – I’ve salvaged thousands of blues and greens and I haven’t found a single Exotic since luck was “switched” from gear.

It does make a difference, but with your MF increasing slowly over time it’s very hard to notice that difference.

The only time I’ve really noticed it was during Secrets of Southsun when I went from my usual 3-4% to 200% thanks to the buff, and most of the enemies were level 80’s including a lot of veterans and champions.

Even then it was a relatively small difference, but I definitely got more rares than usual.

As a rule of thumb…if your ok on gold, break stuff down for the mf, if your not, cash the stuff in & work on mf when you can afford to.

The cost of each % of MF increases exponentially. To max it is over 4.5 million pts of luck. However, 150% MF is roughly 480K pts of luck. So for roughly 10% of the maximum cost of MF you get 50% of the maximum effect. I think this is pretty telling of how quickly the per suit of maximizing this stat can start to actually have the adverse effect of coosting more than you could ever hope to gain from it. Personally, I’d suggest at stopping at (or shortly before) 150% as you will still continue to gain luck points via dailies, monthlies, Black Lion chests, and other sources for the remainder of the time you play the game which will slowly add to your total MF in a natural sort of way. Tbh, those that were in such a rush to spend thousands of gold to cater to their OCD sense of completion and/or advantage have done so to their own retirement as they have thousands of points of luck trickle in over the next years of gameplay that will be completely useless. Ironically, therefore, I don’t see having maximum MF already as any kind of an achievement, but rather a show of very poor judgment, logic, foresight, and practicality. +300% of virtually nothing is STILL virtually nothing. Granted there is a noticeable difference between +10% and +110%, diminishing returns sets in VERY fast during average farming/dungeon running so I could never imagine anything over 150% doing much good anyway unless you’re only able to ‘power farm’ for 30 mins a day. O.o lol

I stopped at 125% mf. Basically it got too tiresome for me: had to salvage blues/greens, some of which I could’ve sold on the TP for 5s each—not to mention those annoying stacks of luck sitting in my bag, which I rarely felt like clicking them all and if I didn’t they would accumulate and take up space (as if I didn’t have enough crap taking up bag space already). Basically felt too much like a chore so it felt good to vendor/tp them instead, less hassle for me (plus didn’t really see a huge difference with mf).

idk, I almost always get enough mats that the loss is small enough I don’t care. Also I haven’t capped my master of entropy yet so the APs are a nice bonus. Besides when im on my dugeon tour its just more expediant to just break everything down into mats and bank them rather than pop a merchant or go to one.

It’s really up to personal choice, but as Tman suggested, stopping at 150% is a good place, because you get up to 50% of the boost for only about 1/10th of the cost in essences. I’m currently up to 130% MF; once I hit 150% I’m going to continue salvaging Blues, but sell Greens if they’re worth a good bit of silver on the TP. (Mostly for people salvaging for Silk, Platinum etc.)

150% seems to be what lots of people suggest. That’s the point where you need extreme amounts of essences to raid your MF any further.

188%/198% here, results have been more or less the same though I might have gotten an exotic here or there since.

Unless you plan on farming mobs for hours MF isn’t really going to make much difference. If you want rares just do the world bosses. If you want exotics just get more gold, nothing beats gold in this game.

From personal observation, I get more rares on hitting 200%. If I use a birthday booster, taking it up to 300%, I’d get the occasional exotic on top of more rares. However, I’ve not been recording all my drops, so I couldn’t say what rate they drop at.
