When you hit 80, you..
Since you have 500 leatherworking I would assume to craft the gear you need(pink). It’s gonna be expensive, but with map completion you shouldn’t have big problems.
To “progress” you can try to get into raids. As far as I know you can also get ascended gear from there. Also, I would suggest to try new classes to keep yourself busy.
Its up to you to be honest. Gw is a game where you set your own goals.
I would recomend getting map completion, while gathering mats for your asc gear crafting. You may actually look forward some masteries to make your map completion easier and get some nice perks while at it. But thats my interests ingame.
Now about your list:
1. Map completion – see above.
2. Easiest way to get ascended gear is by crafting, its more reliable and faster than getting it from loot.
3. Wvw and sPVP is not essential, but if you enjoy that content then why not.
4. Fractals can get you some money while doing those t1 – t2 dailies and have a chance of dropping asc rings/amulets(from t3-t4 chests)/trinkets(t3-t4) and random asc gear pieces. But chances are quite low. For example ive been doing t2 dailies for half a year and only got something like 2-3 pieces of armor, 2-3 pieces of amulets/trinkets and a lot of rings ^^
100% Map Completion is always my next priority whenever I level a character to level 80. Do you have just the one character? Another idea would be to get one of each class to 80 then 100% Map on each. Depends if you have the stamina for multiple map completions though. I’d probably only get your main character to full ascended though!
HoT isnt about completing so much as it is in the core game. VB is a small portion of metas added to the game, so take a break from those goals, go deeper in the jungle and learn your masteries through exp in the metas and get into dragons stand for some fun. Not to mention masteries are also a big goal because you get gliding in tyria. So worry about ascended armor later, that can take longer to get than legendaries sometimes. Focus on the new content in HoT as well as dry top/silverwastes, get some of the living world story as well as the new story done.
Fractals doesn’t necs need full focus. I have been dipping into 1-2 a day to keep me going arou d other projects

Hiya,
I’ve recently returned to GW2 from a 2+ year break, currently maining my Lvl 80 Daredevil Thief. So far I’ve bought HOT, just finished Verdant Brink, have full exotic gear (with 1 pink amulet, 1 pink ring) and just maxed my Leatherworking to 500. I’m just wondering – what should I start doing?
So far on my list, I think I should:
- Get 100% Map Completion
- Get full ascended gear (how to, I don’t know..)
- Participate daily in WvW, sPvP (so far I have)
- Trying to get into Fractals, only reached Level 11 so farWhat should I focus on to keep a sense of ‘progress’?
First off, try to set longterm goals. Full ascended is a good start since it can be broken down into steps and you can actually feel some progress. Do try to attach reason to the longterm goal though. Why are you aiming for full ascended? Just to own it as a goal might burn you out. Maybe consider which game mode you want to use it in since that’s where you’ll be spending most time in later.
Next, don’t force yourself to do “stuff”. Try out the other game modes besides pve, but if you aren’t having fun, leave them. Doing dailies for dailies sake will burn you out eventually. Play spvp if you enjoy it, play wvw if you enjoy, do pve only if you enjoy it.
Fractals can be quite fun, but at lower levels they cn be more frustrating than fun. Especially sub 50. I’d say stick with it, try to mix it up by going for the achievements for getting all the fractals done.
Living World Season 3 is starting next week. Finish up those story missions that are still open. Maybe finish the HoT story while at it.
Finally, join a guild. No reason to become best buddies right away, but in general most things in this game are more fun when done with people you know (especially low level fractals).
As for ascended, here some small pointers:
Trinkets
Rings - from pristine fractal tokens. Should take about 1 week of daily fractals.
Accessoires - ideally from guild commendations, is need be from laurels.
Amulet - laurels
Backpack - Mawdrey is currently cheap IF you have the crafting skill needed. Otherwise pick one of the others: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Rg9kYaV-YZ0qARJf1t8tR7Y5Ps73FwuEAdBrs17VCz8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=901788735
Weapons
Go with exotic for now, try to finish your class HoT collection. Finish collections of other classes for more items. If you are absolutely sure what you need/want, craft them. Rule of thumb is: ascended weapon > armor.
Armor
- Do the Bioluminescenes Achievement and pick a desired chest armor https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/2t21at/complete_bioluminescence_collection_guide_the/
- Rest stay at exotic. Only craft if you absolutely need the item for high level fractals.
